Well guys I have sold all the SB2.2 stuff and putting together a 540 BBC and was wonder with this combo any HP ideas? Was told that I will be shocked by the guy that gave me the combo, but he won't tell me how much power it will make until its done. Its my first Big Block so looking for some guestamites..... Here is the combo:
With those heads and cam you're going to have to twist the u-know-what out of it for probably not much more than you could get with smaller heads and less cam. It might make 900 or so. Don't know why you'd use such big heads and only lift .800".
With some more lift I would hope that thing could make over 1000hp easily.. especially if them headflow numbers are true. I would hope the builder aims for the higher side of the quoted compression ratio as well.
My old 565 had 357cc AFRs and a cam similar in size to that, 14:1 CR and it made 980hp.
Two seasons on the one in my brothers car, they don't have to be unreliable. Mine broke a cam, due to the core used and the way it was cut. I hope to get at least 3-4 seasons without doing anything major when it goes back together.
I got rid of the SB2 stuff beacuse of the durability. Putting the money into a BBC that will last longer. I have rebuilt the SB2 three times in two and a half seasons and tired of doing it so I decided to go BB. My engine guy said to go with that cam because it will work great and wake up those heads on the spray. Loking to hit it with 250-300 shot.
@Scott-I was told the nitrous will work good with those heads since they flow soo much. We figured we will only have to spin it to 8000...lol so with spray it should be atainable, what heads will you suggest with that cam?
@Michael- I am looking to make 1000+ HP on motor.
@Matt- I was thinking of going with these cam specs also that he gave me the choice of
Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 322/344
Duration @ .050 (Int/Exh): 286/304
Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .817/.778
which will also work good with nitrous
To make a 1k+ you need to .900+ lift and 14.5+ compression. Whey didnt you go 4.56 or 4.6 on the bore if you were starting fresh, you still would have room for a couple tuning mistakes.
I think a 1000+ will be a little hard to get.. needs more lift for the heads and I agree also, 8000+ RPM is what it will need.. Ditch that intake and get a sniper Jr or have the 2017 WELL ported..
My 540 was 14.8-1 Dart block, Dart 360 heads, and Dart dom. top intake. Cam 286/296 @.050. .748 lift. .Comp cams shelf cam. .Made 850 @6800. . 40*of timing on race gas with an old 1050 dominator.
Just did a pump gas 555" one with std tension rings, no vacuum pump or anything, old school mid .700's lift Engle cam. Same heads and intake and made 870-880 with 740's for TQ. A *real cam* and compression will definitely help a lot. If you're going with race gas why not put serious compression in it?
if room permits, going tall deck if u havent purchased shortblock yet will get goals easier.598 or bigger...
