We had 2 big hits on my slide today. One took the bait for a second and droped it, the other bit the bait in half. We were using watermellon shad. I was talking to henry about that big tiger, it was almost 10ft come to find out. Conditions werent that great today, but I learned alot.
Im using 65lb braid main line with a 5ft long wire leader and a 4/0 gamagatsu circle hook. 6'6" Shimano Trevala rod on a fin-nor OFS5500 spinning reel. Holds about 300yrds of line.

Use a 5-10oz spider weight on your anchor line with about 50lb line. Set up the anchor real good, then slide this down so your bait is just below the surface about a 6-12"

this pic helps alot....thnx!
-im still mixed up on the depth for the bait tho.... how long should the leader be coming down once its hanging off the main weighted line.
-Also the leader is multistand wire correct? Is there a size you would recommend?
-as far as the location goes is it better to cast away from shore line at the end of the T or cast parallel to shore midway on the pier?
- is there a time a day that is best to target the kingfish? say morning, afternoon, midday?

Sorry for the million questions but I've been pretty pumped up about going and since i live kinda far i wanna try and be informed as much as i can to try and land a king. Thanks again!

The fighting line leader is solid wire 100lb stainless with a copper coating it looks like. We attach the hook and swivels with a haywire knot. The steel wire leader is about 5ft long. Location isnt that critical. We were throwing directly offshore at the end of the T. There were about 10 slides out yesterday evening. My buddy will catch tons of bait in his cast net, then we will chum around our line like crazy. Lots of cut up shad.

We hit bob hall yesterday evening. Setup the slides for king fish, had 3 hits. One king went 10ft out of the water, but shook the damn hooks. Conditions were terrible! 4-5ft waves and dirty water color. Helped one lady land a nice slot red, then 5min watched her other line get taken over the rail. Pretty sure a king was on it, and it came out of the rod holder before I could get my hand on it and into the water. I had a couple spanish mackeral swimming around my shad, but no takers. Were gonna hit it again in the morning this week, and get that king when the surf is a little calmer!

The boys hooked had a nice 3 way hook-up the following weekend. Talk about chaos, all 4 rods went off and it was all to do to keep from being a giant ball of tangled line. They did great! Jacks were crazy on the reef one after another.

Forgot to post this one from the last week of Snapper season...

Went out of Perdido Bay (Orange Beach), Alabama. Also reeled in a Spanish Mackerel and got a couple Bonita while trolling.

Good job man. I wish we only had 18 boats in our tournaments. Last tournament I fished in had 600+ anglers in it! But then again, there was over $20,000 on the line.

Thanks!

It's just a small, local tournament series on Lake Michigan run out of Holland, MI. It's scheduled for 5 events per season on specified Thursday nights.

The tournament pays the top three spots and 'big fish' for each event. Plus, there's a season ending Championship pot for the single top point earner. Winning an event nets you a few hundred bucks and I think big fish will score you $50 or $100 or something like that. I'm not sure what the Championship gets you.

But the money is secondary. This deal is just as much about bragging rights and talkin' shit to each other. For example, one of our pals, Tom, was doing terrible that night. It was two hours until weigh-in and they didn't have any fish. I think we had 5 or 6 at that point. We troll up alongside each other within shouting distance and start comparing notes over the radio. Tom is deseperate for a hot tip.

We suddenly have two rods hit and a third hit a minute later. All three of us were fighting fish as Tom is watching from his boat. I yell over to Tom's boat, "Hey Tom! If you or any of your guys aren't doing anything, please send'em over! We really need the help!"

Tom 'saluted' and split away from us.

A couple minutes after we netted the third fish, one of his guys sends a text message saying, "Tom's in a real bad way right now. He's writing a suicide note on the side of a planer board and I think he's about to scuttle the boat. Stick close. We may need a rescue."

HA!!!! Now that's good fishing!

I'm not sure what these guys use, but, where I do most of my fishing, I'm allowed 2 poles with 2 hooks per pole. One pole has 2 bated with minnows, that I fish right next to the boat on a bobber. The other pole has one or two jigs. one floating and one lead head. Make sure the lead head will pull the floater under or add weight. It just keeps them separated. Tip them with twister tails or what works for you and cast to the cover. The beauty of this is the followers that don't bite may hit your stationary bait. If they are not biting well switch up colors and type of plastic or even tip jigs with minnow. Works pretty good for me. If they are really hitting, you may want to pull the stationary pole so you don't look like a Chinese fire drill. A rod holder is needed, or you can keep picking up the rod. Vary dept to find them. I sometimes use wax worms, usually early or late before ice. These will usually be fished about 6 inch to a foot off the bottom.

What ever method these guys used looks good too. That is a nice mess of good eating.

Trying out some new soft plastics made by a guy in the Houston area called Chickenboy Lures. For flounder, they are the best damn thing Ive ever used! I smashed my old 19" record yesterday with this big fat ass 21" flattie. Just smashed that chickenboy shrimp!!

Took the gf out gigging for the 1st time last week. She loved it! Then wanted to clean all the flounder. Think shes a keeper! :D

Went out looking for flatties today in the surf. 4-5ft waves, 30mph winds, and this monster trout showed up to the party! 7lbs, 28-1/2" long
