Tdc for my engine is nowhere near the Tdc mark on the balancer. Tdc is pointing to the 0° mark.I'd this normal? I'm installing the msd timing tapes right now, so does this even matter?

Assuming you found true top dead with a piston stop, the pointer should point to the 0* mark.

Is this a joke?
0 degrees is TDC.
Vertical TDC is just that, the line will be at 12 O'clock. It is just an extra line, not meant to line up with the pointer.

Yep, all is good here ..... I would put the tape on it anyway if you can see it better than the markings on the dampner. That zero is TDC

Or horizontal TDC, or tangential TDC. Some people like tangenital TDC.

Why use tape? Pointer is adjustable and balancer is already marked. Put piston at true TDC and adjust the pointer to show -0-

i like the tapes, my rattler balancer marks are faded bad, but every tape flys off at the track.

a friend of mine puts the tape on and clear coats it, so it doesn't come off.

wtf your pointer is adj, as long as your sure its tdc adj the point to 0 and your good to roll......dont get why people over-complicate shit so much

x2, just loosen the two allen headed bolts and move the pointer to the zero line and its all good.. no need for tape or overcomplication....

I have even tried super gluing tapes on, still come off. I just use nail polish to mark the TDC mark an my 38 degree mark on balancer...

Shoot, I just use a Pentel [ball-tip] correction pen to mark initial and full advance.
I know to not douche it down with brake-clean or the pressure washer.
I didn't use a clear coat 'cause I might wanna make a change.
'1st time I have seen a "vertical TDC" marking...

Mark behind the WP was maybe late 70's to 80's. It was read with some sort of magnetic pick up that fit in a slot/tube and shown on a screen.
