I'm late to the party, growing up had a 12 sec bracket car. Then the family thing happened, and for the next 25 years they had the priority. Now I 'm back with the Chevelle, nice 454 4 spd changed to a 5 spd. went to the track, ran 12s, not enough got it to 11.5s, should have been happy. Drove in a LRE 540 66 Chevelle. Now the 454 isn't enough. I have 3-6 more years of earning potential, I'm hoping to get this out of my system while I can still afford it. Then relax.

I agree 100%. As much as I love racing, I have far too many interests away from the drag strip to dedicate the majority of my finances to a car.

I see guys who own there own shop. That lets them to do a lot of thier own work and labor rate is big money in drag racing industy
Lots of company owners, you get a small business with low over head
Partners, team like Conrad scarry, Kenny, and Randy. All good at thier own thing and all bring it together.

I'm just glad to have a car to tinker with again. One day at a time and we'll see where it ends up.

Lots of people have a line of credit that is all invested in the race car. Never go in to debt to build a toy. It becomes the first thing out the door when it gets tight. My car is paid for. I still have 10k to go before its finished and when I save enough for a part I buy it. Then I look at my list, pick a part, and start saving. Used parts are always a great way to get what you need.

It pays to shop around be paitent.
