Default e-85 vs. pump gas

just wondering if e-85 will make more power than pump gas if ran on the exact same engine?

Give Mark Sullens a call or pm him he goes by drag chevette on here.I'm sure he could give you the correct info on your application. Probably could hook ya up with a carb for e-85 as well! 573-772-0283 after 6:00pm cst.

No .
E-85 IS pump gas , it just has a higher ethanol content . If your engine was happy with pump gas ( E-10 ) then just adding more ethanol won't increase power at all . But it will lower your fuel mileage a lot .
If you're planning to try E-85 , contact all of the E-85 carb builders , there are at least 20 very good ones , and get their recommendations . Many of those carb builders also sell kits and instructions for you to convert your existing carb very inexpensively .

thanks for the input guys!! i will figure somthing out just dident know if you took the same motor and ran it with 93 then converted it to e85 witch one would produce the most power without any changes to the motor other than what it takes to convert to e85

LMAO! Thanks for the correction Mark! I was reading it out of my cell phone and got it confused with the number above yours. He would have reached another buddy of mine named Mark. BTW...How did the trans work last weekend?

You guys should be careful about putting a phone number in an open forum. When the web crawlers find them and sell them to the spammers you will never get any sleep or work done because the phone rings constantly with robocall spam.

e-85 is a great fuel...if you are thinking of going with nitrous, run it...150hp of nitrous is fun without any issues on e-85..convert!!!..the power of the corn compels you!!!

my engine was a true 11.8:1 after all the factors added up engine dynoed initally with 93 octane, switched to E85, hp/tq only jumped 15/17.....just not enough compression to take advantage of it. It sounded like an animal when switched over to E85, just like any alcohol motor sounds wicked, but the gains just were'nt there since it was a realitively low compression static, even less with cam duration/valve overlap figured in.

Would be no different than trying to run 110 octane in your daily driver, it's not built to take advantage of the slower burning fuel and less BTU's.

so when you dynoed it, did the curve change?..17 peak torque is ok, but did it carry that through the band?..cuz that would run quite a bit faster than with gas..thats what my vega did..top end, not much, but low and mid, its a killer on torque..i have 12 or 12.5 -1 cr..quite a big 60 ft and e.t difference..

The curve was tit for tat, we only got peaky when moving the timing around.
