Are you talking a Dark red or a Dark Burgundy ?? There is a difference......That Brandywine over Black is more the Dark Burgundy setup. When I think of a Dark Red I think more like Carmine Red.

ANYTHING over Black Pearl will be VERY hard to see.

The Black hides color very well.

Any red over a red pearl/black will only show red on

the compound curves in the sunlight.

Tops of fenders, edges of the roof, sail area.....

Pretty but VERY subtle, It SUCKS when you have to

TELL somebody that your car has a trick paint job.

Use a darker red underbase.

No kidding...yeah I def wanna see some red...just don't want it bright. Want a very dark red. I will try the dark red for my test panel then. Thank you very much!

Also what difference would it be between a dark red base and a dark grey base?

A LOT!!!

Get a piece of metal, I use about a 16x16", light gauge,

Put a real gentile bend in it, paint it like the car, let dry,

take the sheet metal a put it in the sun and rock it around.

I do a bend, corner to corner.

The test piece will show you the full color and the off color on a flat and curve.

REALLY good way to show Kandies, Pearls and all the trick stuff.

I did a '70 ElCamino for a guy, it was HOK Dark Grey base

with HOK Kandy Brandywine, I put a pinch or two of HOK

Fireball Red Flake in the first couple of coats of Kolor, kind of buried the sparkle.

Then put a bunch of coats of Kandy.

It looked "ALMOST" Black, but had a good hint of Red/Branywine.

The sun came out and the car almost exploded with the subtle

Red Fireball Sparkle, especially when you walked around the car

The compound curves REALLY showed the Kandy Brandywine.
