Default 9 inch gear question

looking at 9 inch diff gears today. Two different ratio gears were different thicknesses. Is that right? Just wondering..

Depending on the gear ratio, the pinion gear requires more or less teeth. So yes the gear ratio changes the thickness / size of the ring and pinion gears. This goes for all rear end differentals.

yup a 2.73 has a fat pinion and a thin ring, a 4.56 has a small pinion and a thick ring. If the gear didnt change it would require different diffs or cases for different gear ratios.
