Default car surges at cruising turbo400

BBC in a street car 900hp with a th400. while on the highway in "D" at 60-70mph the car starts to act crazy like surging. when you put it in 2nd gear same rpm, same speed, it doesnt do it.

I know nothing about transmissions, the only theory i can come up with (not sure how that works) is that it is crusining with the trhottle open at only 8% (efi) that is barely cracked open, and it has 12-15 inches of vacuum and it is causing this problem. just a guess.

What makes you think the trans is the issue? That sounds more like an engine tune or fuel problem. The load on the engine is different in second than in third, so that could be the issue. With FI, there are a number of things it could be, but that almost sounds like a vacuum leak to me. Only a guess though.

well, a/f is steady at 13.0 while cruising, timing is steady also. correction factor is less than 1% and it is steady at 10-15" of vacuum depending on rpm. transmission has burnt up a few times, so thats why i am leading towards the trans. it was bought used, last time it was taken to a local guy that is supposedly real good, but i dont think he is at this level of performance. i dont mind sending it out to someone reputable, but maybe its an easy fix maybe not.
