The amount of visible smoke will depend on the fuel. The carbon double bond in Aromatics will make more soot than Alkylates in which carbon has only single bonds. Aromatics such as Toluene and Xylene are used in some race fuels because they are high octane. In spite of its high octane, the use of Toluene in Avgas is limited to a small amount to avoid soot and carbon buildup (besides Aromatics attack fuel system soft parts). Alkylates will need to be richer than Aromatics to show visible smoke. To see soot with Alkylates it has to be so rich it won’t run very good.

I must be one of the few who cleaned up a fat tune and made more power/went faster?

I hope all the competition comes full circle and resorts back to the good old 4 spread tunes
