Default Going from a 16 volt system to a 12 volt

Heres what I got, last test of the year, found both my 2 year old turbo start batteries had bad cell in each one of them,so to get me by this last test,i put 2 new 12 volt batteries in,running no alternator and spraying two kits, sledge hammer and a IS fogger, running a water pump, fan, ignition ,race pak ect.is it possible that not having my 16 volt batteries, can my system pick up a rich cond...so rich that its blowing black exhaust out, data volts showing that it is droping to less than 11.5 volts.never seen it do this intile I switched batteries..or do I have something else going on..

Maybe you have some additional voltage drop in your ignition system and the 11.5v the logger is seeing is not what the ignition is seeing? Say you had a 1v drop in the ignition circuit, or another wiring circuit, that would have you down to 10.5v which would be marginal at best.

All that aside, I would for sure want to get back to 16volts before the season starts. To me since all the modern stuff can withstand 16v there is IMHO no reason to run a 12v batteries. Your ignition and system solenoids will perform much more robustly with 16volts.

that is sad. I have always ran turbostart and have had them atleast 5 seasons. I think they are made by a different company now. I now have a 16v XS now.

I am contemplating switching to a 16v system. Interested to hear what battery's you go for. I was planning on the turbo start ones. The lithium ones are too expensive for me.

I would go back to 16 volts stuff too. Based on many things I have seen even a single 16 is better then two 12's. SJ

I would love to go with a lithium type battery, but I run a 3250 # and need the two reg style batteries for weight, allthough I do run outlaw and pull the weight, its not often..with that said, think I may try the rock batteries this go around.

I had swelling issues with XS power right after I got it. And their charger is supposedly set up to stop when it is done. It shows it does. Have a Turbo Start that is 6 years old and still going strong. I also have a Rock which is currently in my car. I like it a lot also.

Any of them can have issues, but in the end it will be whichever one you pick. IMO they all work good.

Do you use a battery tender when you don't use the batteries for more then a week?
I also find using one battery life will be longer then 2 batteries hooked up in paralle and using 1 charger.

Yes you should or replace your curent charger with one that has a battery tender built in, I use xs power and going on my forth year and I'm only running a single battery, with efi,2 stages, 2 bottle heaters, never a problem.
I'm also running a light weight 14v battery 28lbs less capacity, but never ran it down.

I nevered used a battery tender,no issues!Turbo start chargers over charge the batteries!I honestly forgot what they are suppose to be at full charge, but it charges pass that and kills the battery!
