Default Cooling fuel, make any power?

Anyone ever tried putting very cold fuel in the tank? all other things being equal does it make any power?

It does if youve got a blower or turbo under the hood.

Sometimes measurable in tenths.

I've seen Stock/Super Stock guys try it when they're making a "record run." Whether it works or not I don't know.

You wouldnt put cold fuel in the tank. You would run the fuel through a heat exchanger mounted in a container, then pack the container with ice. Ive seen it work on a hot day but never tried it when the air temperature was cooler (40-50F)

I am talking about putting very cold fuel (how ever cold a freezer could make it) in the cell right before a run.

A cool can, etc could not make the fuel as cold as a freezer unless you packed it with dry ice or something similar.

How large is the fuel cell. I would think the surface area of the cell would suck the heat out of the fuel before it got a chance to reach the engine.

Now what Jeff said is just awesome. The dry ice doesn't have any chemical effects on the fuel?

Dry ice is just CO2 is'nt it? So wouldnt is just disapate as it melted. Or would the gas become co2 laiden, I know people pay big bucks for oxygenated fuels.

I have saw it asked on here before. Most said they saw no effect. One guy said they kept fuel cool untill they were in the lanes, no better.

Hey 63,
Just thinkn on this but you run nitrous, and wouldnt colder fuel be heavier fuel? If so how much will that change the tune-up?

Changing the temperature changes the density.

Changing the density means more mass equal volume.

On a Blown ProMod it was worth a tenth.

Methanol doesnt freeze till -145 degrees F......

Shawn, you can put insulation on a fuel cell. Lol

Around 1997 we got tossed from a Divisional race because we had our fuel jug in a 55 gallon tub of ice. YES, there is something to it.

You can insulate it all you want but thermodynamics laws state that heat energy will flow until equilibrium is reached. If the cell walls are warmer then the fuel it will pull heat out. The more surface area the more it will take out.

IMO this is application specific and is more beneficial the warmer the temperature is outside. Just what I've seen on slow cars

Any time the temp delta can be made greater of course its going to work better.

Like i said before.....this really shines on a forced induction engine moreso than a N/a one.

The right fuel at the right temp and introduced the right way..... Will make more power than An intercooled setup and room temp fuel.
