I have a person at the track she just called and told me that Steve was hollaring to his wife as they loaded him that he was ok. I was my understanding that he was air lifted for numbness in his legs. I will pass on more info when I get it.
heck ...he could run those at his shop...inside...he's trying to get the local county to ok his request to build a new drag strip in southern ohio....glad to hear he's ok....brandon
I was also there and can agree it was very disturbing wreck and looked really bad from the starting line . We tryed getting to the shutdown area to get a closer look at the car but track official's had it roped off already . Hope to see a fast recorvery !!
the word at the track was that he was ok, not seriously hurt, and beening transported to hospital for observations. It was a pretty hard hit, as he hit the wall almost head on. I think the fact that the car was upside down made the the process a little more difficult.
Pro Modified driver Steve Engel, of Shandon, Ohio, entered surgery Sunday morning for injuries he sustained after his car went out of control and crashed Saturday at the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis.
According to his family, Engel has fractures in six cervical vertebrae and damage to his spinal cord.
That must have been why it took so long to get him out of the car. We only know what the track tells us. Hope he comes out ok.
