    Clay,
Are you just looking for the calculations to determine if the flywheel will be unlikely to fracture due to the stresses? Intuitively I would guess that the steady-state stresses would be well below the failure point, but it would be an imbalance condition that could cause a failure.

You may be just the person I've been looking for if you would be willing to help. I have been trying to build a inertia dyno. I have figured my mass but I'm unsure of my flywheel design. I talked to our local engineering deptartment and a student agreed to help but never come through. I need to know that the mass isnt going to be torn apart by rpm. I started working with Young's modus and Hooke's law but just couldn't get it figured out. I'm a electrical contractor that specialize in controlled process. My dad owned a machine shop I grew up in and bought after his death. I think if I knew I had a safe flywheel design I wouldn't have many problems making the dyno. If you have any interest in helping me I would greatly appreciate it and do anything I could to return the favor or pay you.

    Thanks
    Clay Parker

    TRACKS WITH STEEL GUARDRAILS

although I no-longer live there, I'm sorry to say that my original home-track, Pittsburgh Raceway Park (formerly Keystone Raceway) still has steel-rails, and they just hosted an IHRA NitroJam this month, running most of the fast-cars to 1000', ala Glendora
