Anyone here do any upland game bird hunting? My dad used to raise bird dogs when i was young, and finally he talked me into getting a dog to hunt with. He is a German shorthaired pointer named Jager. So far he is 1 year 4 months old. He is hunting quail like a 4 year old dog...all instinct. He points and retrieves. We have had him retrieving doves and he retrieves dummies from the water. We are going to try him with ducks after deer season is over. He is so good at it, we have gotten a female to start breeding them. We plan on selling a few started dogs a year once we get rolling in another year or two. The first pic is of Jager, and the second is of the female named Mishka. I am located in NC, so if any of you guys are into this type of hunting, maybe we can get up and share locations and do some hunting.

Thanks man. I think they are going to have some great looking pups when the time comes. I am fairly new to this breed, but so far, they are very cool. Jager has mastered everything we can throw at him and at a very fast pace....almost scary some of the things they do .... just too smart. Thanks again for the compliments.

When we had quail here ( I have no idea if it was the coyotes or what but there are basically no quail left in this area ), I used to hunt them but with out a dog, just jump shooting, same with rabbits as well.

He is a sharp looking dog, the down side to a smart dog like that is they get into way too much shit lol. I had my pup out working him some on cold water retrieves this afternoon.

Yeah...i agree 100% about the smart dogs getting into more shit. So far he has done pretty good. The other down side to a smart dog is they like to test you and push you to find your limits for them to get their way. The wild quail population is almost gone here too. We normally hunt pen raised birds. We have actually found a bird "farm" that have quail that fly just like wild birds. Most other breeders birds will fly 20 to 40 yards away and get back down if they will fly at all. The ones we are using once they are up, you better hit them cause they are gone if you miss. Last time we had him out, he pointed a pheasant that someone had put out and missed earlier in the week....the only bad thing is my Dad and my buddy were the only ones with a clean shot at the bird, and they both missed. I haven't has him in the cold water yet. He is still a very hyper puppy that get really excited in the water and like to chase his splash...this gets him in trouble every now and then. I am going to have to put a vest on him when the time comes.

Oh one more thing .... If anyone knows where there is a place that we could get him in wild quail, i am very interested if it can be arranged.
