Hello,

I am running a 540ci BBC and would like to get suggestions on valve lash. My cam card recommendation for lash is .028 intake and .030 exhaust. Would it harm the cam to try a tighter lash?

4.500 bore x 4.250 stroke
13.5:1 JE dome pistons
BME 6.385 aluminum rods

Dart 360 heads flow intake 357 at .750 flow exhaust 240 at .750
Dart dominator intake
Pro system 1150 Dominator

Comp Cams Roller cam
Duration at .050 286 296
Lift .748 .748 112 center

2900lb camaro
4 link 4.57 gear
31X16.50 Quick time pros

Powerglide 1.76 first w/brake

It won't hurt to go abit tighter .Is there a reason why you want to go tighter .If you tighten it up it will give you more topend and if you losen it, it will give you more bottom end .take small steps and try it down the track the ass dyno don't work .My cam calls for .012 I tried it at .020 and it was a mut it had no mph . I've never tried it tighter and don't plan on it .012 is tight enough .

I had that exact same camshaft in my 565.. We got the best results running the lash at 26.

The shape of the lobe has a ton to do with lash. Couple that with the designed lash at the cam, and the cam card information is worthless. You MUST know what the designed lash was and then multiply that by the rocker ratio for lash at valve.

Good Luck.
