I have to change housing ends on my 8.8 ford rearend to run dual rear calibers and was wondering if narrowing the housing 2 inches on either side and running 3in backspace instead of 5in backspace would be worth it or just stick with stock housing length?
Looking to take a few pounds off the car and this would reduce unsprung weight, would there be anything negative with doing this? Especially with the different offset rims?

Can you put a wider wheel on it?

We narrowed my 8.8 2 1/2 inches per side and put 9 inch ends on it . I have 15x10 wheels with 5.5 bs . The wheels sit perfectly under the car .

I'm running 10in wide rim with 5.5backspace, just thought if I had to change housing ends I would knock a few pounds off by shortening the housing and using a different offset rim, if that makes any sense.
Shorter axles, new housing ends, and new wheels. all for what 5-10lbs. You decide....

He has to buy new housing ends anyway. Plus I would bet he is going to bigger spline axles (his current ones are on borrowed time). So the only real increase in price would be the wheels.

exactly, just wondering about the offset wheels more than anything. if I could knock off 10lbs unsprung....yeah it might be worth it.

My rear is currently being narrowed by Wild Rides in Jersey. I am having them take 2" off each side and I will be running a 15X10 with a 6" backspace. I will also have the big bearing style 9" ends. I am also mini tubbed as well.
