My freind has a 69 gto judge it makes 440 rwhp/468rwtrq in the futer he plans on upgrading to edelbrock heads. If the posi is upgraded to an eaton unit and the axels are replace with moser units how long do you think this will last? It is street drivin and is drivin like its stolen et street and sees some drag strip use as well !

The Eaton posi and Moser axles are fine, but the old 8.2 housing is limited because of the small pinion shaft and flexy axle tubes. In the old days when I was younger the guys that didn't have a 12 bolt in them old big blocks broke a lot of ring and pinion sets. For street use its decent but if you are going to beat on it with sticky tires sooner or later it will likely give up. Just hate to see you spend all that money on that 8.2 housing if its going racing. I know those 12 bolt housings are scarce for those cars anymore. If he's making this amount of power the 12 bolt would be a wise investment in the future. A friend of mine has a Chevelle with a 396 4speed with that small rear end. Why GM ever did that stuff boggles my mind. Good luck.Ed SR.

Thanks Ed thats what I was thinking that the case would break a bolt in 12 bolt is $2200 and some change to upgrade the 8.2 is roughly $1200 not counting a support cover I think it would be a case of bad spending i'm just trying to get other opinions thanks for your help...................Glenn

8.5 is a great upgrade from an 8.2. Not much weaker than a 12 bolt and alot cheaper and easier to come by.

if your going to spend the money buy a 12 bolt or a nine inch don't wast you time with a 10 bolt.
