i was wondering what gear oil to use in our nmra hot street rear end. it is as follows.

5.14 gear lightened
fab9"
40 spline gun drilled axles (strange)
strange ultra case center section.
pro series light spool ect................

Is the torco stuff that bickel sells adequate or do i need a different oil.
and what weight is reccommended for something like this?

thanks

See link, we all agree that a regular non-synthetic oil is best for break in.

Dewco pro-stock gear oil. Shit pours like water even when it is 20 degrees out. Don recommends a minimum of 3 quarts.

Hi John : I would like a small sample of that to break down if you have any extra. i only need a table spoon. If Don says use three quarts that tells me the oil may have a problem. How does your gear face look? Blue , are there any machining lines left on gear face? Does your center have angular contact bearings or standard taper roller? You could also send me a used sample .Thanks

I noticed while at a NHRA race in Ohio a few years ago that the pro stock guys had a pump running for the rear axle. Does anyone know what they are doing between rounds? Just cooling off the oil or exchanging it?

I heard they" NHRA P/S" only run a gear set 2 races 15 runs or so, because of the oil they run.I heard it was REAL lightweight viscosity.

I would use the Lucas Oil Products 75W-90 full synthetic until you get everything sorted out before using the light weight stuff. I've run 8.60's with it and no issues. Then again, with that gear you may want use some 140 WT to help keep the rpms your going to be turning in check.........

No, not at all, what ever would make you even think that, I just do not understand where a question like that would come from......:-D

I actually work with Lucas and their products are definately tested hard before they are released. I can honestly give high recommendations to their products and feel real good about that in today's market where "fluff & circumstance" seems to be the norm.

For 20 bucks Don will sell you a quart. My gear faces look fine. I had 49 runs on them. My center has a double ceramic bearing.
