I have a 84 Camaro stock suspension, weighs about 3100 lbs. with driver, 358 sbc na, makes 575 hp, powerglide trans, 8" 4800 stall converter, moser 12 bolt rear, 514 gear, 28 x 10.5 tire. Best ET so far 10.64 @ 125 mph with a 1.42 60' time. Car goes through lights at 8300 rpm. I'm looking to change rear gear and bring down rpm to about 7700 - 7800. I'm also going to be refreshing trans and adding a transbrake. Any advice on rear gears, converter, and trans gear ratios?

What size tires are you running? Can you get rid of any weight? If you stay with the same tire size.... then just drop your rear gear ratio down to about 4.71. If you can fit a taller tire, then go to a 4.90 gear and run a little taller tire. There are several options.

If you are looking at doing something, give me a call!

A 4.71 will drop 750rpm's at that MPH and the 4.86 ratio would drop around 500. You will be loosing some torque multiplication so you may want to go with the 4.86.

4800 sounds a little tight for a NA combo, I run a 4400 with a NOS set up. I would ask some of the pro stock guys here or call Ultimate Converters, 203-874-2100. Talk to Lenny he set up my converter and it really helped my program.
