Running a 10 year old Don Hardy 12 bolt(Lg. impala unit),30 spline axle, finally broke a axle near spline( 950 runs), looking at Strange (Hy-Tuf) axle or Mark Williams Hi-Torque axle. Is their much benefit to spending the extra money going to superlight series axles in my mid 10 second vega?

No.. just buy what you need.. I would suggest switching to 33 spline stuff though.

I was hoping to keep the 30 spline axles and up grade then to Strange Pro Set and keep the same spool, would this work ok?

I can get you the whole kit with the spool for only $85 more I think..
Plus the 33spline and larger axles have a warranty
You could do it. but if you were thinking of spending the money on the lightened stuff, which you dont need, spend the money on the stronger kit.

Thanks for the help Race9899, this is not a Don Hardy rear end as I original thought. This is what I found out.I have a 12 bolt Vega rear end that came from a place
called Motion Performance Parts,Inc. in Baldwin N.Y
from 1979 in my race car . I am looking for
replacement axles, they are not standard G.M. axles.
They have a 1.274 shaft and a 2.830 OD bearing size?
Any help would be appreciated, I have called Strange,
Moser, williams,Superior with no luck.
Maybe time to junk the whole unit!

I should have a new spool in 35 spline for that 12 bolt and a new pr. of axles on the shelf for that 12 bolt for 590.00 + frt.. That housing end sounds like sbf end .If you give me the bolt pattern of the end i can tell you what it is.

That is what I was thinking but it has GM brakes on it.

Thanks for the replys, I believe I have a custom made axle with a ford end and a chevy bolt pattern and brakes, at this point it looks like I need to replace the housing ends to a larger bearing size and go with some 35 spline axles and spool and a larger dia. bearing.

That would be a good idea...
And they do make an end for the 3.150 bearing and the large GM brake backing plate

Damn that read end may be worth as much as your car! Is it a true Baldwin Motion Vega?
Do a web Search if you never heard of them :D
I would keep it and stuff good parts in it ;)

Not a Baldwin Motion vega, just a Don Hardy 12 bolt rear end from 1979 with Motion Performance custom axles installed ,I believe that was one of the places that Don Hardy was using for the internals. I have up graded to Moser 33 spline axles and new spool with the larger implala ends and 3.150 bearings, will be delivered tomorrow...
