Has anyone setup gears in an 8.8 out of an 03 or 04 Mustang Cobra with the aluminum housing? I was wondering if the backlash spec was different because of the aluminum housing. I thought because aluminum expands more you might have to set it tighter. The spec for and iron rear is .008 to .015. This is a street car with some drag strip use.

If your abusing it , set it on the tight side.

I've set OEM gears to about .005 at the tightest and with your aluminum case I would stay around .007.

Use a case spreader and set the backlash according to proper gear pattern.

Using a case spreader is like a Gynocologist using a speculum, it just makes it easier to stick tools in...:p
