1.29 60 foot, DEAD HOOKING, off the footbrake at 2400RPM, 3860 lbs., 59%/41% F/R weight bias, stock type/bolt-on suspension.
And it's done WITHOUT rim screws, tubular A arms, trick springs, drag shocks, anti-roll bar and tubes!
Tires don't turn on the rim, launches like this EVERY pass/everywhere and the 60 foots vary thousanths from pass to pass!!
So how is it that you need rim screws??

What you think of my advice/knowledge is of no concern to me nor is what Jim recommended!
The FACT is the 60 foots that THIS car is running with it's mid 11's on motor and 10.54 on the bottle to date tells me he/it doesn't NEED rim screws!!!!

What part of NOT needing rim screws not to mention...wasting his time and $$ don't you understand?
My ride is over 200 lbs. heavier, makes far more power and 60 foots at least 2.5 tenths quicker!
If I don't need rim screws...HE don't need rim screws!!!!
What he needs to do is TUNE the chassis/suspension...
"1st pass was a motor pass spun really really bad went 11:69 @ 117 mph
2nd pass we sprayed it it spun even worse went 12:15 @ 86mph shutting it down a little past the 1/8 to read plugs
3rd pass we put 6 tenths delay in the nitriuos so it would not spin
it hooked pretty good that time ran a full pass went 10:54 @ 124"
81 olds
05-09-2006, 07:22 PM
well all knowing how do you stop it from moving 2.5 inches ( give or take a little )
besides your advise of not needing rim screws ? how do you expct some one to fix a problem with advise like"you shouldn't need rim screws " and not tell them anything else???
footbraker
05-09-2006, 07:27 PM
Come on...this is easy stuff!
1. remove the tires from rims
2. clean wheel bead and tire bead
3. remount tires DRY...meaning NO soapy water/tire mounting lube!!!!
Tires WILL move on the rims for several passes but will stop!!
Trust me, him spinning the tire on launch has NOTHING to do with his tires moving on the rim!!

now I see some advise in your statement

they were mounted by a shop that speicalizes in race tires ( not the local chain store ) I don't think they use any thing to mount them ( i think they put them on dry) but I can't swear to it. got any other ideas ?
Slow 69 SS
05-09-2006, 07:38 PM
Just a suggestion...you might want to see if they used powder (Talc) when they mounted the tires. I never spun tires on the rim untill a shop I hadn't done biz with mounted my tires with that.

Your car is a motor car and his car is a nitrous car, nitrous hits hard out of the hole. and a FYI the car has been just as fast as yours.
So let me get this straight rim screws would not solve the issue of tire spinning on the rim?
You stated screws will not stop the car from spinning the tires? If you ran at milan in april on a wed night you would know why it spun the tires...
It just really gets your panties in a bunch when someone spends money on something that's not needed doesn't it???

Ok junior allow me to educate you...
1. Surely you mean just as quick ON THE BOTTLE!:p
2. "nitrous hits hard out of the hole"...infering that THIS as well EVERY engine on the bottle hits HARDER/makes more torque than my n/a engine and/or ALL n/a engines... ain't acurate or true!
3. his tires aren't "spinning" on the rim, they've moved on the rim!
4. correct...screwing the tires to the rim will NOT stop the tire spinning he spoke of at the hit of the throttle when launching!
HIS tire spin he mentions in a previous post is the result of a chassis/suspension that isn't working/ transfering weight!!
dosen't a t- brake hit the tire a lot harder than footbreakin it ?
Are you saying it will 60 foot quicker?...NOT when the car works!!!

So Jim:
Was the tire spinning on the track?
OR
Was the rim "moving" on the tire?
OR both?

I was busy yesterday
but his has got way out of hand

but the tire moved 3 inches on the rim and now the tire is out of ballence and has a vibration
what harm will it do to screw the tires to the rim

Just think how much quicker/faster my ride would be if I used...
tubes, tubular A-Arms, trick springs, drag shocks, dominator carb, aluminum heads, split fire plugs, K&N air filter/lid, a magic stick from Harold Brookshire, 2"+ headers, sumped tank, fuel cell, fire hose fuel lines, a fuel pump cable of feeding a Pro Stock engine, stud girdle, valve springs with 300 psi on the seat, a glide, a BTE converter, a spragless converter and a line lock.
Maybe I should also put my battery in the trunk, remove the power steering pump and power brake booster too. . NOT!
ANOTHER wannabe that thinks he knows who believes the marketing, myth, rumor and hearsay spewed in the magazines and quoted by the naive and clueless on the net!

Without getting into the BS going on here...8 on each side will hold the tire and save you some drilling. Make sure the screws are in the same location (across from each other) on both sides of the rim so the tire sidewall reacts the same on both sides. Good luck!

Every time I see Footbraker he is just running his mouth talking Shit!! Hey Buddy your car is cool, now get over yourself! What class do you run with that thing?? When Mr Beebe pulls to the line, he wants to win the round, having the rims screwed might make sure the tire does not slip on the wheel. Now if it were to slip during some test and tune for fun I'm sure it would not be a big deal. The point is for a few bucks and some time he can rest easy knowing that will not be the reason that the 60ft goes away during elims.
Before you ask NO I do not race currently!

back to the subject,i just looked and mine have 8 each side.I took the Roy Hills chassis class several years ago and he said that the best way to do it was to have 10 screws per side and the first 5 you set up to be in line with the wheel studs and the next 5 in the middle of those. He said that when the car takes off that the forces travel from the stud out to the tire and you want to have screws there to hold it.
I can see when running a automatic and footbrake you might not need them as the launch is soft, but with a trans brake or a stick the tires are going to hit real hard. The last thing you want is the tires moving on the rims.if the inside doesn't move the same as the outside the tire becomes twisted then problems occur.when you do the screws the tire has to have a relaxed fit on the rim.
I tried not to use them at first but my car hit on the launch so hard the tires just moved around and was worried that if they move to much they could lose air or worse yet come off the rim!

I suggest you learn how to race a real racecar and hang with the big boys before you start taking digs at their wives.
I have NO fear, or you or any car. And I will take you on. I think I read that you've only been 10.20's so why do I have to wait til I can run quicker than 9.14?
It's ok to admit you are just a 'test & tuner'.
You might find you do better when you're off the soapbox and in a car.
Good luck to you :butthead:
