Wood duck season came in for 5 days here in KY with today being the last day. Me and a buddy got a wild hair and decieded to try it out for the first time and went this moring. MAN, these dudes are FAST!!! We shot at a bunch but only got 3,and could only find two.
Needless to say we are lifetime wood duck hunters. http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k413/wooracing/woodduck2.jpg

Nice kill.
Our season for wood duck/teal just closed as well. If you think wood's are fast you should try and shoot these lil green wing teal lol.

I heard a story about a group of 11 guys that got busted for a a big time over kill plus hunting over bait, well I finally found the story and picture, word was 160+ ducks one day and a lot more the next day but I guess the story will only come out fully when they go to court. All I can say is I hope they hang the sorry bastards.

Anyway here is the picture they took with their cell phone and were smart enough to send around to some of their friends.

Before you get caught up in shooting over the limit. Be aware it comes at a high price.
I was called for jury duty a few decade ago now. I usually give the regular excuses to side step it, like most do. This time I found out that it was a water foul law that was broken. I did get picked as a juror. The guys had clearly with intent shot over their limit. They where found guilty and fined 150 dollars a duck and lost hunting license for 5 years. When the duck count was split up evenly it came out to 1,350 dollars per hunter. each was 9 ducks over. That meat bill is pretty high.

I hear the argument that some days you don't get anything, but that is why they call it hunting, not killing.

Woodman, I'm not sure where you are in Kentucky, but I went down to the Ballard county reserve area and had a great late goose hunt quite a few years back. I have good memorys from that hunt. I'll tell you about it sometime in hunting stories.

I agree 100% and would love to sit in on this jury.

That has always been a hot spot where the Ohio joins the Mississippi. Over the years I did most of my hunting in the Iowa, Illinois area of the Mississippi. One of the big concerns is the drop in duck population. I used to have a friend that was a federal biologist and we argued all the time about this. It was always my contention that the Federal preserve system was the biggest contributor to the population decrease. Bill didn't agree till he was almost retired that holding water foul in contained areas was not healthy. They only need one duck with a virus to wipe out hundreds of thousands. If you look at a National map, you will see refuges evenly dotting their way south. Over the years this has changed the flight patterns and where they hold up. It has also changed the hunter and their methods. It is kind of sad to see guys lined up at the refuge lines shooting fly by ducks and geese. Some don't even put out a decoy or give any pretense of being a water foul hunter. One of the other things the government did for us was outlaw lead shot. For some of you younger guys, you may have never used it. It was cheap and it was a killer. Steel shot has caused more wounded ducks and geese than was ever lost to lead poisoning. I participated in the lead shot study. I asked how many of the thousands of gizzards that where collected for study contained traces of lead. The biologist said,"not one, but it's a good idea not to have lead in our wetlands". I just wonder how many babies are going to crawl in the wet lands to eat the shot. It seems they are the only ones affected by it. Water foul survived the market hunters and the high limits of the 40s and 50s only to fall prey to the Government. It just shows Washington can screw up a one cow cattle drive.
