I am wiring a 1990 mustang with painless wiring and switch panel...
Would it be better to wire using fuses or fusible links????

Fusable links are cheaper to do when mass producing, and typically a problem looking for a place to happen. I personally prefer resettable breakers, they are just lots more money.

Agreed, but non automatic, manual reset. I've heard too many stoies about cars burning up, because an automatic reset breaker was used, and there was a short in a wire, where the breaker would cycle and over time the car would ignite, because the owner was no where near the vehcile when this was happening.
I usually use fuses, cheap and they work.

I have heard of that before, but always second hand. Anything is possible, but the resettable ones I use need to have the load removed before they reset. i.e. in the case you noted above, once the wire had shorted, the breaker would pop and stay poped until there was no load potential load on the shorted side.
But like anything, protections can fail and not ever device works according to design. I just have never seen it personally and the breakers are designed not to do that. Using the manual reset ones would definitely be safer, just a lot less convenient.

I prefer circuit breakers as well...I bought a moroso swictch panel kit and it used circuit breakers...had a wire fray and short out, and the breaker did its job...flipped it to reset it after finding the short and all was well.
