I would like to start bow fishing and need some advice. What is better a compound bow or a recurve for a beginner?

I would say a compound.

Compound but keep the poundage down around 40 or less in shallow water arrows get stuck bad.

x2,
no reason to use anything more than 35 to 40 lb bow, we use junior compound bows, they are smaller than a full size and are 35lb bows- makes it easier to handle the bow for those quick shots out the other side etc.
