Sparky,
I heard you're the man to talk to about making a RacePak backpressure sesnor live. I have burnt up two of them. I must be doing something wrong. I'm taking the pressure from the y-pipe, just below the turbo inlet. I ran about a 24" stainless line (tubing) away from the y-pipe and put the sensor on the end. The sensor only lasts a few passes. What am I doing wrong?

Jim,
The trick to getting the Transducers to live on Turbo Back Pressure and Oil Pressure too, is to condition the signal.
What causes the Transducers to fail is not so much the heat, when being used on Turbo Back Pressure, but the pulses the Transducer is getting blasted with.
To help condition this signal you need to install a fitting that will accept a .018" or .020" N20 or Fuel Jet. This fitting should be installed near the pressure tap (near Turbo) and not at the Transducer. The Pressure flowing through the Jet will reduce the pulses and streamline the signal going to the Transducer, without effecting pressure readings. The actual data trace will be a much smoother trace.
Also bear in mind that if the Transducer is mounted right at the Pressure tap, you should install 18" to 24" of 3/16" or 1/4" hard-line with a couple of coils in the line, this along with the Jet fitting will ultimately reduce pulses and preserve the life of your Transducer.
The same Jet method can be used on Oil Pressure too. Sometimes cold race engines produce very high Oil Pressure levels, which can reach the threshold of the Transducer. Constantly subjecting a Transducer to this type of abuse will definitely shorten the life span of a Transducer.
I hope this helps,
Sparky

Great info Sparky! You're right about the oil pressure. Mine is pretty high when the engine is cold.
