i have some parts gathered for my new motor and i have some questions.

i have a 400 block that is 30 over. the block has less then 10 passes on it.
i have a lunati crank that is the 3.75 stroke
i have new set of 5.7 rods and a new set of 6" rods
i have a set of dart 215cc iron eagles (64cc 2.08,1.60 valves angled plugs)
i have a victor jr intake
i have a set of hooker super comp headers
i have a turbo 350 in the car now and i have a glide with a trans brake
i need a cam and lifters
i need pistons

i want to be able to run the car on pump gas for occasional street driving
of course i want to run a fast as possible

my main question is -what length rods do i use? what cam do i use, im planning on a solid roller. will this motor put my 3400 pound nova in the 10s? 9s? i really dont want to buy new heads either. am i wishing for too much? would higher compression make that much more power? just a few things i have been thinking about. thanks for any input.

i am planning on spraying the car too. i have a single plate setup.

If you are using pump gas and iron heads, you REALLY need to be careful. And on the compression deal, yes it will make the car go faster. I have yet to see compression slow a car down. This is of course with the proper octane of fuel, the right spark plug, and the proper camshaft.

The shorter rod will pull the piston from TDC quicker giving the engine a better chance to resist detonation. The 3.75 stroke and 5.7 rod will use a 1.425 c/h piston. That will be generous enough to have the ring down to allow heavy amounts of NOS and thick enough to run a dish as deep as you need.

There is a TON more information I'd need to make a specific cam recommendation, but look at Comp p/n 12-911-9. That cam ground on a 112 LSA and an IC of 110 would be an ok choice. I'd use 1.6/1.6 rockers as well. Remember, this is a small base circle deal. NO, this is not the perfect cam, I most certainly could do something a way better. But it'll get 'cha going.

Good Luck.

Jacob You didn't say how you wanted to hit those times if you were planning on spraying the car to a 9 or a 10 sec pass or if you wanted to do it on motor . I have 406 with Dart heads and a 5.7 rod very simular to your combo and it's a pump gas engine also .It isn't unseen to get low 11's or even 10's out of this on motor but make sure you put a well matched combo together .I have completed a build sheet and just spoken to Jay and I have to say he didn't leave any stones unturned .He will speak with you about your converter your heads your gears and so on .I like his attention to detail and I look forward to working with him on my combo .Thanks Jay:smt023
