Nice!

I love offshore fishing, but not big on eating fish. Blackened Mahi is one of the few I'll eat. Good stuff!

I rarely eat fish. Been practicing catch and release for years now. But it seems most salt water fisherman keep the catch. We caught a bunch of these Mahi Mahi, and the captain threw EVERYONE into the livewell. We let him keep them all. I am sure he sold them to local resteraunts for a nice bit of change.

I will be in Costa Rica in about month to finally(hopefully) catch a marlin or a sailfish. I came dammed close in Brazil, but still have never caught a billfish. Maybe if we have time, even some freshwater Peacock Bass?? Pics to come

Nice little female! Bet it was fun as hell on light tackle!!!

Pacific Mahi Mahi are prettier IMHO.

At certain times of the year in Hawaii, you can get big bucks for Mahi mahi..........some damn japanese religious holiday or something.
When I wasn't deployed, I went deep sea fishing about 3 times a month with some of my men.

I was shocked when the captain pulled the rods out and I looked at them. I used heavier rods Jigging Largemouths in the reeds.

But they had large capacity spools and the reel had a quick lever drag. The first one I brought in was pretty easy until it saw the boat and I swear it ran for what seemed like an eternity. I kept looking down and was expecting to see the bare spool. After about 6 of them it was becoming work!!! It took a good 15-20 minutes+ for each. I had one right by the boat, swim along side, I leaned into it and I could not even turn its head!!! We could have definitely went up a little in tackle.

When I get on the boat in costa rica, if I see rods that small, I am staying on shore!!! I better see, nice shiny Penn Internationals and roller guides on tree truck rods!!

I've had good luck with the marlin and sailfish in Cabo. Caught my 1st marlin there a few years ago. That was a rush and flat wore my ass out!! About an hour after getting the marlin on board (ran itself dead) , my wife caught this sail. This one we were able to turn loose.

I hope to come home with pics just like that one. I have never caught a billfish or a Peacock Bass. I plan to catch both in Costa Rica.

Here's a couple more pics of those fish. The marlin died about 30 minutes into it. If you don't have any luck in Costa, get to Cabo!!
