Since April of 1963, Cecil County Dragway has been home to some of the finest drag racing in the North East. The facility has opened its gates to many racers including drag racing legends Don Garlits, Don Prudhomme, and Bill Jenkins.
For well over 40 years the landscape and atmosphere has virtually remained the same. Many will reminisce about the house that once bordered the grounds with the infamous tree house that overlooked the quarter mile. Last year, the house and its respective property were cleared to create new parking areas. In the process of clearing trees and fences, a gem was revealed in the form of a pond that accentuates the overall atmosphere of the facility.

Last week the view became even more extraordinary with the removal of additional trees and hedges. New fence was also put in place, and the main entrance was widened by approximately five feet with the removal of the hedgerow.

In addition to improving the overall appearance of the surrounding area, the metal guardrails that once served as the barriers in the shutdown were replaced by 12-foot sections of concrete walls. The addition of these walls not only improve the appearance of the racing surface itself, but it also serves as a dramatic safety improvement that has already had many racers expressing their gratitude.

Lastly, Cecil County has made an advancement into the future with the addition of wireless cable internet. The internet service provider has been working to install the service and it should be operational very soon. With this addition, racers will be able to access the internet from the facility, and it will allow live feeds to be broadcasted over the internet.
