May 31 - Cecil County Dragway/Finishline Performance Saturday Night Street Car Shootout Race Preview
The quiet 100 acre facility nestled away in the rolling hills of Rising Sun, Maryland is about to make some serious noise in a big way. As the summer weather begins to heat up the northeast so does the competition. Cecil County will serve as the battleground for racers who are seeking revenge and others who have unfinished business. In addition to settling scores, racers will be dueling for additional cash that has been fronted for this event.
Leading the event will be the Outlaw 10.5 class who has slowly seen larger car counts but promises to turn in big numbers for this race. With additional money being posted by Shannon Mechanical Heating & A/C and J&E Performance, racers will be pushing their power plants to the max for a shot at $5,000. Last months winner Richard Sexton will be in attendance, along with at least one other car out of the Gil Mobley racing stable. Sexton is the odds on favorite as he packs the biggest power with the 800+ cubic inch Fulton nitrous power. However, many racers are chomping at the bit to get a piece of the big blue goat including Joe Newsham who faced Sexton in the final last month but suffered transmission failure. Harold Caldwell’s Mustang will certainly be looking for a piece of the action in addition to others who have shown promising results including nitrous racers Mo Hall, Mike Bradford, Jimmy Reutter, and Dave O’Donnell who is coming fresh off a final round Quick 8 appearance. On the other side of the table, several twin turbo entries will attempt to boost their way through the competition including Larry Wood, Ray Johnson, Terris Hicks, and Jerry Morgano who is also riding high with momentum coming off a final round Quick 8 appearance. Additional class sponsors: Harris Motorsports, Ferrick Construction, Red Alert Refinishing, Montana Brothers Race Cars, Competitive Wiring
The Outlaw Big Tire class has slowly been on the rise this year as it is the only such class in the Northeast. Many have become a little uneasy with the performance of the blown entries in last months competition. In response, class sponsors K&K Precision Machine and J&S Racecars have responded by posting the necessary funds to call out all racers in a $5,000 showdown. The odds on favorite include last month’s winner Ken Doak who is still toying with his new Jim Oddy Hemi. Other blown entries include last months runner-up Gary Naughton and Smokin’ Joe Schroeder who has seen promising results in early testing. However, several nitrous cars will be coming after the blower cars including Chris Connors, who is making his much-anticipated return to the class, and former NSCA world champion John Schroeder. While some have been complaining about the performance of the blowers, other racers including Charlie Micallef will be coming for revenge as he believes he has untapped power left under the hood of his big bad Chevelle. Finally, look out for a few surprises as former 10.5 racers Shawn Zubler and Kevin Phelps will make the jump to the class in an attempt to rage an all out assault on the blower cars in what is expected to be a thriller as these cars will let it all hang out in the ¼ mile format. Additional class sponsors: Philmont Auto Body, Delmarva Concrete Pumping, Liberty Auto Body
In Drag Radial, the fans have been amazed as these machines have put on a show full of wild wheel stands and side-by-side action. To add a little more incentive for the radial boys, class sponsor DRA “Commercial Handyman Services”, Corupt Motorsports, and Ellas Automotive have all thrown down some extra Benjamins to bump the payout for this event to $3,500 for the winner. The competition is expected to be fierce as the wheelie bars will remain off and the combinations set on kill. Last month’s winner and world record holder Alex Vrettos will be in attendance in addition to nitrous world record holder Richie Stine who is seeking his revenge against his hole shot loss to Vrettos last month. Others include Paul Major, who suffered transmission failure last month, and Sal Patel in his super-clean twin turbo Viper, and John Balinsky and his big block nitrous Cutlass. Fending off the wicked combinations of big blocks and twin turbos will be Rich Bach who is stacking all the nitrous he can carry from New York and the deadly small block of Steve Drummond in his 1967 Mustang. All bets are off and the slate is wiped clean as these boys are about to push a radial tire to the max in hopes of getting their fingers on increased payout, which they have been searching for this year. Additional class sponsors: PM Construction, Big Time Automotive
As if these three classes were not exciting enough, Cecil County will also be opening its doors to the North East Pro Mod Association as it comes to town with their new Extreme format.

Additionally, the 8.50 index, Pro Street and Super Street classes will also be running in this event creating one of the wildest shows you will ever see in the Northeast in one day. Cecil County Dragway/Finishline Performance invites you to join us for what is promised to be one of the best days of racing you will witness all year.
