Since the cam gear has been brought up in a previous post how do you get away with using a regular steel distributor gear. (is there a compatible gear pressed on the cam core?)

I read the Nextel cup guys run a .005 oversized to properly set the backlash and gear contact pattern. Do you know of this, should we be looking at this too? I know they have to use a distributor, (no crank trigger) so is this why?

Also, what do you think about the new composite gears offered by some of the cam companies.

Thanks, It’s nice to have someone like yourself here….hope you don’t mind us picking your brain too much…

There are quite a few companies that offer a steel distributor gear. Most of the PR Fords have steel gears from the factory. However I myself prefer bronze.......I always have.......I always will.......Even on a 100% street car. If you read my response and then read your question, again, the answer will be quite clear young grasshopper.

I was honored when it was presented to me about being a moderator here. Its just nice to be wanted.
