My cage is bolted to the floor in my truck. I want to extend the tubing thought the floor to frame extensions. Can you put 6-8" of 1 1/2 .065 CM inside of 1 5/8 .083 CM to extend the front and rear hoop? Is this legal for 9.99 and quicker?

1.5-.065 will not slip fit in 1.625-.083 you will have to turn it down to about 1.455 to get it to slip.this will give the 1.5 a wall thickness of about .042,a little thin for my tastes.I would go for a wall of .095 or better. As for legal i always thought it was illegal to sleeve any of the main bars i.e. main hoop,halo....ect. so I never have but,I grabbed one of the sfi spec books and all it says is" All butt welds must have visible reinfocement or interior wall sleeve(s),six inches min. 3" per side of joint c/l ,w/visible rosette welds. Rosette welds shall be within a half inch from the end of the interior tube and must be a min. of 1/4" in dia." "Components wthin the funny car cage insert may not be repaired by splicing, patching, clamshelling, ect.All other components may be repaired by splicing, patching, clamshelling, ect. according to generally accepted aircraft repair procedures."

hope that helps
