hi, i would like to know far the axel splines should be in the spool?what is the minimum? should both axels be splined into the spool the same(can one be 1 3/8 in and the other be 1 1/2 in.) i have a 9 ford sheet metal housing .i got the print of the housing and this was sent to the axel mfg. the left side axel is splined into the spool 1 3/8 in and the right side axel is maybe 1/8 " into the spool. carrier /spool same brand as axels.
any input on this would be helpful. thanks gary m

I am not positive, but a good rule of thumb for the minimum would be what ever the diamater of the axle is. So if the diamater is 1" for example then 1" of axle needs to go in the spool. Hope that helps.

hi, well i got the right side axel back from the company that made the axels and spool and after carefully measuring as to how far that the axeles are splined into the spool the r side axel is 2" and the l side is 1 3/8" . so my question is , is it safe to have one axel splined into the spool deeper than the other.when i ordered the axels a print of the 9" sheet metal housing was sent( i would have thought that they would have made the axel correctly the first time!!)the length of the spines in the spool are 2"- 2 1/8" so i have the r side axel splined fully and the l side is 5/8" shy of being fully splined. this is a great forum, hope to get some answers. Gary,
Strange says a minimum of 1" of engagement. Hold that helps.
