Racers and spectators are gearing up and getting ready for some high revving, screaming burnouts, action packed heads up drag racing! I’m sure by now you have either heard or read about the rebirth of the small blocks by the Outlaw Small Block Association, if not you might want to check this out!
The Outlaw Small Block Association (OSBA) is a newly formed drag race organization created for racers utilizing the small block V8 engine to make their power. The purpose of the association is to create a drag race environment where racers, engine builders and vendors supplying the parts for the smaller cubic inch engines can connect. OSBA members get an opportunity to showcase their talents and have fun doing so, while delighting the drag racing fan with something new and exciting. The association's website can be found at www.osbadrag.com (http://www.osbadrag.com) .
As for the OSBA racing itself, it's pretty simple: the cars leave on a Pro Tree, and whoever gets to the finish-line first, wins! There are no break-outs and no dial-ins! The racing action will be close with races being won by fractions of a second! All racing classes will use a heads up format.
2008 will be the inaugural racing season for the OSBA. The first year will feature three classes for the small blocks: All motor (2350 pound minimum), All Motor (2750 pound minimum) for heavier back half cars, and an Unlimited "run what you brung" Power Adder class. We realize the three classes don’t allow for all small blocks racers to compete in the series, but as the season goes on we will be looking at ways to incorporate more cars. All rules and other information can be found on the OSBA web site. Virginia Motorsports Park in Dinwiddie, Virginia will host the inaugural event on May 17th & 18th. Some of the best and fastest small block racers on the east coast are expected to be there to show their stuff.
We are actively looking for sponsors and seeking to expand our organization to a much larger audience. states Bill Harris, founder and president of the OSBA. We will be talking to several other race tracks so we can give racers from other parts of the country a chance to compete in the OSBA. Our membership continues to grow and we are looking forward to some really good racing this year. Small block racers have been waiting for this and they are looking forward to getting this series started. If you don’t have a car to race in the series still come out run the test & tune, enjoy the race and support the OSBA. If you have questions, please call: 571-259-3148
