12 bolt third member for 9" housing

has anyone tried the strange 12 bolt center section for a 9" housing and would you recomend it?
i have a 2700 lb car and want to run 7.80 or better.

I remember a few years back in the formittable years in street car racing that a few guys (blue 70's camaro) tried it and they failed. I'm not saying anymore about that for that is all I remember.
