I am currently running a 31" tall (31 x 18.5-15) M/T Sportsman with a 4:10 gear ratio. I am going to be buying a set of M/T Drag slicks for the track and was considering going with a 29.5" tall slick (29.5 x 13.5-15) to get my gear ratio lower. According to the Wallace calculator, if I go from a 31" tall tire to a 29.5" tall tire, I will be, in effect, going to a 4:31 gear ratio. I will be primarily running a 1/8th mile track but will occassionally run a 1/4 mile track.
Does going to the 29.5" tire sound like a good way to get a lower gear ratio?
