with 55gpm pump you will push approx. 1 gal per sec. of fresh water through your int.5-7 gal cell

Depends on if your trans cooling or not. 5 gal w/ 2 - 2 1/2 bags should cover you through hot or cold weather.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone on here changed from the older style intercooler to the new honeycomb style? I was wondering , with the extra demand in water flow did you have to put a larger water tank in and if you did how much bigger did you have to go?

The reason I ask is, I just recently bought a new older style intercooler (very large and heavy) and I'm wondering if the extra water needed with the new style intercooler if this somewhat balances out, like I think it would? When I purchased this intercooler this was a non issue, but the rules for the class I'm trying to build my car for changed in favor for what I'm building by 200 lbs., now the weight is an issue! I'd hate to have to put it up for sale after just buying it, but I may just have to.

I believe it's similar in size to the one Jim Monson runs, unless he's updated since the picture I saw of his.

Thanks for your input guys.

i run an 11 gallon i got from Tim Huspen, its a street car though. I would say with a 55gpm pump 7 gallon would be good.

All the racers Ive asked have told me a 5 gal cell is enough for a race car. Most of these guys are running PT3000 or equivalent. Mine is only a PT2000.

Jim, I was wondering if you are you using this water tank too cool the trans cooler also? If so with a 3 gallon tank I might not need to change intercoolers as that might help offset the weight difference.

if it didn't have that pretty billet end cap I'd say have Macey modify it to have an integrated tank like on ray's mustang. I'm pretty sure you could get away with a much small tank and pump both with that type of deal since the core is always bathed in the water, with the pump on the opposite side of the core from the ice.

Who sells the transcoolers mounted inside of the aluminum boxes? I thought I had a link but I can't find it.
Thanks!

I have the big Mezeire pump and all -12 lines.

I had the same setup in my old car, minus the tranny cooler. I had inlet temps of 65-70 degrees and the water was always cold as hell in the tank after the run.

Thanks for the responses Jim and Jeremy. I'm building a '00 Camaro for TT5 and D/R racing so weight is a concern. But, I may just end up keeping the intercooler, at least with it in the rear hatch it will have plenty of weight over the rear end. :p

That's not a bad idea Eric, but I'm one of those guys that hates to modify stuff for my own program. I always try to not modify anything I don't have to. I do this more for the future than anything else, just in case I end up needing/wanting to sell something in the future I'd hate to ruin it's resale value. :)

how many cars here are under weight? i weighed my car and was way under weight so made my fuel and water tanks 6 gallons each. i have a pt3000 with -12 pumps and a ford racing pump. i still have ice in my tank after a run and the datalogs shows temps to be in the 50's
