Was wondering how strong of a bottom end in the engines is required for supercharging with say 20 pounds of boost. Do you need billet cranks and rods or does cheaper thing work. Thanks for any input.

IMO 20 lbs is alot of boost,so this engine should be put together with top notch parts,I honestly would say use an aftermarket block, crank, pistons and rods, and of coarse a good set of heads so it can breath.

In all honesty speed costs money lots of the time, but people do put some engines together cheaply, You do pay for what you get!! Where ever you skimp on trying to build some thing powerful.you will prolly have trouble,So I am not saying it won't last 5 minutes ,,it may last 5 years, some people have all the luck, doing more with less.

In my case I'd try to build a bullet proof engine with aftermarket parts,,thats like buying insurance to me,alot less head aches.

I have been down the cheaper route before, but when building power it usually cost me double!!

Thats my opinion you can weight out the odds,I am not much of a gambling man when it comes to 20 lbs boost!

maybe 5 to 7 lbs boost you will get away with it.
thats my .02 on this, lets hear someone elses opinion

I'd definately agree with Tom with, 20psi your going to need a solid bottom end. Steel crank, rods, forged pistons, and an aftermarket block would be great insurance.

how are you guys ...........i run 355 sb tryed the cheap way out 2 bolt block studed gm steel crank h beam eagal rods srp forged pistons kiwi heads 290 crane solid running 11% underdriven 6/71......................down under burnout comps are huge engine lasted 1min 58 seconds before it snaped a cap and broke the crank in two ..........now run same combo but with billit 4 bolt caps girdil and eagal crank.
engine has done 14 burnouts in comps were the engine is at 7000 rpm for 2 to 3 min and leaves the burnout pad with the temp on 250 to 280 just pulled it out to check bearings ...........engine runs rich with 28 deg in the timming made a lazey 470 at the tyers......if you are going to rev it spend sum cash but if its just for show it may hang together for a sum time before it turns into scrap metal:(

gives new meaning to "boiling the hides". I don't think you could do a burn out contest like that up here, the lawyers all want the vehicles chained down so they can't get away on the driver and get into the crowd. I gues the lawyers down in OZ aren't hated as much as up here for suing everybody for no reason.
