i guess this debate really falls into 2 catagories: big blocks and small blocks.

as for the big block, chevy has the advantage with smaller main and rod bearings to reduce friction, a better and cheaper selection of heads, cheaper high end stuff like aluminum rods and ultra light weight billet cranks, basically affordable big block. i just don't like chevy's large combustion chambers in their heads. fords are smaller making more easier to build compression without using hedious domes. but don't get me twisted, i have a big block ford i'm about to build and ford technology has come a long way. the big ford has heads to compete with the big chief headed big chevy's. so i say chevy by means of price.

as far as small blocks goes, unless that chevy has some sb2 heads, it's not even close. you can get 700 horsepower easy with a small ford without using exotic parts!!!! look at the trend now starting to happen where you see chevy's putting fords in their cars. ford has heads that work. the big misconception of small block fords is not the motor itself but the light weight mustang. people cry that the car is so light. it's more to running mid 8's n/a than a lightweight car, especially when that "lighweight" car weighs 3200 lbs like charlie booze! small block ford all the way.
