i have a 68 camaro with a small block, 5 speed, multi leaf springs, lakewood drag shocks, weighs 3600 w/ me and runs low 11s. it will hook on slicks but i am trying to use drag radials now and i really can't come out hard on them. i was thinking i should replace my slapper bars with either caltracs or slide a link bars. also what about springs, i have been told i should switch to single leafs. i do drive it on the street if that makes any difference. any thoughts are appreciated

I'd just call Calvert Racing....if they can make a S-10 hook enough to get it in the 8's I'd say they know their stuff.

MY CAR HAS BEEN A 1.27 60 FT WITH SLIDE A LINKS AND SPLIT MONO LEAFS, THE KEY TO MAKING THE SLID A LINK WORK WELL IS TO REPLACE THE RUBBER ABSORBER WITH A ALUMINUM ONE, THAT AND A REALLY GOOD SET OF DOUBLE ADJUSTABLE SHOCKS

not to steal the thread , but is there a reason the caltracs are better
i've never actually used caltracs , but the slide-a-links have always worked well
i only ask because i was thinking about trying caltracs out on an a friends s10
but we were leaning more towards the slide-a-links

John Calvert is the originator of the design. The Link is Comps answer without copying them directly.

besides I think Calvert would give you alot more tech support than CompEng.
We've had good luck with the Cal-Tracs on an S-10 also, but I am going with the Smith Racecraft Max-TraX on my Chevy II because they offer a few more adjustments for the bars location. http://www.smithracecraft.com/

I have to say I like the Cal trac bars I have them on my 80 Camaro and there great. Befor I had them I had allot of problem hooking this car up (on the street) now it will hook in the rain but I did have to use the top hole on the front bracket ,it didn't work as well in the lower hole it helps hike the front end and plant the tire hard

Let me ask this, I have a 68 Nova that came with the Slide A Links, what would be the problem with replacing their bar with the absorber, with a bar like the Smith or Calvert bar? Or is that not the area of concern?

Kelly, I tried that on a set of Slide A Links on my friends 68 Chevy II and so far it hasnt been working too well. I believe that since the front pivot of the Slide A Link is clamped rigid unlike a Cal Trac or MaX TraX it isnt working. I may try to fix(cobble something up) that this Spring and if it doesnt work were gonna scrap them and put MaX TraX on it.

With the budget as it is, I guess I'll have to leave the SL and multi leafs as is for now, since he said they will work.
How do I set up the SLs?

I run the C/E Slide A links on my car, all I have ever ran. Stock suspension 69 camaro on true 10.5's at 3350lbs. Car is on the bumper every pass with best 60' of 1.26 and avg of 1.28. I can't imagine the car working any better than it already does.

Its a monoleaf. Landrums to be exact. I have always heard that leafsprings loose their effect after so many runs. I'm between 150 and 200 runs and still working great.

FSTA how long have you lived in Alvin Tx? I used to live there from 89 to 91 and did a little street racing there and Hobby. I had a white 69 chevelle.

I lived there from 90-91, then moved to pearland, then moved back about 3 years ago. I street raced there and at Hobby as well. I dont remember any white 69 chevelles from there but I have slept alot since then. I had a red '66 chevelle at the time.

I am using the Slide-A-Links and front QA1 coil overs "R" series and it totes the tires approx. 100 ft. out 12 " and easily lets it down.

Where do I get the aluminum bushing?
I got a machinist buddy thats gonna make me some! Before we get to that point thought...If your going to take the "slack" out of them, what would be the harm in making a solid bar like the CTs and eliminating the bushing all together? Only need to figure out the correct center to center for it, which I would guess to be the same as the SLs race ready on level ground?
