Hey Hutch what would be the proper way to do a burnout with a th400 with a 4000 converter.I usually start in first and go into 2nd then 3rd and let out of it. Is this way to hard on it or not????

Its not really killing the trans but its also not the easiest. The 1-2 shift with wet tires unneccesarily shocks the low roller clutch.
The absoloute best way if you have the power is to start and finish in high. If thats not possible start in 2nd and shift immediately to high , that is the easiest on the trans.

Take care ,Hutch

Is this the case with all 400turbo;s or ones built for racing? Let's say you have a 69 chevelle with a 327sb and a 400 tranny with just a shift kit and its a streeter and you want to take it to the track for fun.. Would you still want to try and start in 3rd if you have the power? THANKS Hutch

If the trans has just a shift kit then you are forced to have the trans either shift by itself and hopefully get to high gear. If you are manually shifting with a shift kit(auto shift) trans at least it will have the assist of a band.
If you have a shift kit (manual shift type) then I would suggest following the race trans burnout procedure if possible.

Hope this helps ,Hutch
