View Full Version : What would you build to run 8's???

Here is what I'm debating on...... What to build??? I want to change my combo, and I want to go in the high 8 range to 9 flat.... It's in a 3600 lb 76 Camaro. Stock suspension, 28x12.50 ET Streets. Here's what I'm thinking of:
434 small block, blow through F2 ProCharger, or Same CID engine, higher compression with Spray.
or
Nitroused big block... (496 or bigger)
I know that's extremely broad, but I can't decide WTF I want to do.... If you have any other suggestions just shout out.... Thanks... 8)
I live on the high plains of TX.... Air is usually around 6000+....

All three would get the job done, if you have no rules why not go with the BB blow throught with the biggest blower you can get that way you can get the best of everything, low cost, room for upgrade or upsize in cubes, low RPM for long life and just change a pulley to add boost

I would go with the blower either way BB or SB. Easier to maintain.

whatever has the most readily avilable parts sitting on shelves at the local HP place or jegs... exotic is fun and "cool" but cheap and reliable is always better. 8's isn't a hard mark to hit and should be done with ease on some very common and easy to fix powerplants.

If you are going to use the F2, I would use a smaller engine. You would have to spin the F2 pretty hard to make good boost in a 434. On the other hand, high 8's would be real easy with it.

If it were me I'd build like a 383 or 393 cu in with a set of SB2.2 heads,most money you will have tied up would be in the heads,this would be a killer engine,
small cubes,big power and work, I see no problem getting your goal MeanSBC
A good engine like this should put out 800 to 1000 HP depending how its set up,of coarse this is a normally asperated engine, In fact I am doing some reasearch now on this for a customers engine now.
