I used du Pont chromabase. I hasn't really worn off, but is has gotten chipped up by the window net mounts and seat belts

i use ppg base coat clear coat, Prep means more to making it stick and last more than what paint you use. but if you want it to look nice take your time and prep the bare metal.

I used POR-15. It's pretty thick, has not wore off yet. I also painted the floor with it. No marks there either.

i bought 2 pairs of sill moldings (vinyl textured) that come on Toyota Sequohia and put it where i rub on the bars.no more wear. They sell clear Vinyl that would work.otherwise i have the same paint that i painted the car with on the cage.

was the finish a smooth look or were you able to see the brush marks?

You can buy stainless or aluminum covers for the door bars to protect them, or you can use that 3M clear vinyl also.

It came out pretty smooth. Just make sure you use a good brush. I didn't and some of the brush brisle(sp) came off and stuck in the paint. POR-15 claims it to be self leveling. It seems to work good.

You can spray POR-15, i've done it several times with excellent results. My floor pans are painted with it on both sides. My rear-end is painted with it. I painted the cage with POR-15 "Hardnose" paint. Closest thing to powder-coating.

I was a car this weekend that they had used the Rustoleum Hammered spray paint on the cage and it looked pretty nice. It kind of had a light texture. I think the stuff is pretty durrable but limited in color selection. Has anyone else had experience with this paint?

Friends cage is painted with that, it's called Hammertone. Very tough stuff. I use it to paint tools once and a while. If you're into the textured finish, it's great stuff for a cage.
