I believe both Dupont and PPG have UV stable satin clear coats. shoot the base color you want and finish with satin clear. This is the best way I know to do it as the pigment will be protected by the clear and not be exposed to the elements like a straight satin black.

not sure about ppg but dupont has a chart for different percentages of flatness where you add a flattener to there clearcoats.helpful with the different degrees of flatness just satin black may be too flat or have to much shine so you can make adjustments .

you can also flatten single stage urethanes wich i have done in black for a mopar hood .1 thing is you have to make sure you get a clean job cause you cant sand and rub with either single stage or clearcoat

ppg makes a chassis black in single stage,i have the part number for it but i won't be home till late tomorrow to get it. Or another option is to use a flattening agent in the clear which ppg has.

John, As Rick & others mentioned, the best plan is to use a flattener in the clearcoat. As True10 said, it is tough to get a real nice semi-gloss job. Doing the Mopar hoods, ect. you can hang them to limit the dirt, most of the time small areas work out ok, but a whole car will be tough. The temputure & humidity effects the gloss some, so be carefull when you spray. Try to paint all of the peices all one day. Even the flattened cleacoat does not resist "stains" from fluids, ect. as good as regular clearcoat, but is better than flattened single-stage. I have a low-gloss truck, I just plan on spraying it again every other year. Maybe someday I'll put some real paint on it! Good luck, Lorne

Sorry for the late reply guys. First post.
Hot Rod Black in Hot Hues by DuPont is UV stable matte black single stage as said by others earlier. The color part number is HHM-6400, Activator is HHA-6405. It mixes 2:1, and can be reduced with HHR-7065 or HHR-7075 depending on temperature. Stuff works great, and matches big block Camaro tail light panels perfect.
