I was wondering how strong the 6.0L blocks and factory cranks were for a 408 application. Leaning towards nitrous.

for a 408 you need a 4" stroke-the factory stroke is 3.622-the cast iron blocks are pretty strong

the cast block have proven that they will take a beating- heaps of guys running good et and puching out huge power+torque-

the factory one will give up the ghost at around 1000hp.
If you put Darton sleeves in it and a girldle, it should handle 1200-1300, but for the price to sleeve it, you are better off getting an LSX

word is that is no lsx blocks in stock-people are saying problems with the block in casting and others are saying gm having problems with the makers or it or they looking for a new block maker-
I have a nitrous 408 iron block motor and i have pushed water with copper gaskets and o ringed.Im in the prosess of buliding a new motor and im running a lsx block. My old setup went 8.92 at 3430 raceweight.

The new production gen IV 6.0 is a bit beefier. I have no idea what its maximum reliable power rating is but having recently built one I would geuss that 200hp over the older 6.0 is definately beliveable.

do you happen to know what the max bore might be?
do you happen to know what the max bore might be?
On a 6.0 iron block 4.030 is about as far as you want to go to be safe.

I have iron 410 truck block and it made over 1000 to the tires on the dynojet......Trapped 164 in Memphis. Since then I have trapped 137 in the 1/8 but all I do is race 1/8 mile in DFW.
I am switching over to methenol and going to hit another 200 worth of bottle at it. I have not lifted the heads one time since I have had this motor together. 1/2in head studs and cometics

LOOKING TO BUILD A NEW ENGINE TIRED OF THE HEAD LIFTING, WATER PUSHING PROBLEMS. THE ENGINE MAKES 700HP N/A AND MOST OF THE TIME I SPRAY A 175 SHOT I DON'T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT, BUT ANYTHING OVER THAT HEAD LIFTING-WATER PUSHING!JUST WANTED TO KNOW WHAT OTHER BLOCK CHOICES THERE WHERE OUT THERE THAT WILL GO AT LEAST 4.060 FOR NITROUS. I'M AWARE OF DART,WARHAWK,LSX, PLANNING ON RUNNING ETP CANTED VAVLE HEADS ON NEXT COMBO.

I would look at either the World or the LSX. Both offer 6 bolt provisions. The Dart to my knowlegde is avialable only in billet at the moment.

You could always get darton sleeves and put 1/2 head studs in it.

THANKS GUYS FOR THE INFORMATION. ON THE DART THEY ONLY WANT $9,300.00COMPLETE WITH LIFTER BORES BUSHED.I WOULD HAVE TO SELL MY WHOLE ENGINE JUST TO BUY THAT BLOCK.SOMETHING WRONG WITH THAT PICTURE.WARHAWK $5,000.00 AND I HAVEN'T HERD NOTHING BAD ABOUT IT. BUT WAS TOLD THAT THE LSX WAS HAVING SOME ISSUES. ANYBODY KNOW ANY INFO ABOUT THE LSX.

Why would you sleeve an iron block????????My girdled 6.0 block took around 1700 hp and worked great.I'd still be using it but I bought a Dart billet block for the bigger bore and 120 lb weight reduction.
If Dart is getting $9300 for a block now I feel fortunate to have only paid $6400 for mine last year.

The romour in the mill is casting/foundry issues. I would go with the world. Good block for the $ stronger then the GM offerings and lighter then the lsx. $5000 seems a bit high for a world warhawk though.

I know of a few people that sleeved their truck blocks so they could go to a 4.125 bore, but this was before the LSX block was available. One of them actually sold his LSX block and is still using his sleeved block.

The world blocks have issues too. Seams that only the world stuff bolts on to a world block and what is up with thier inner block head bolt thing?
Get a LSX if you are tying to kick the world with hp.

ETP heads bolt to the world block. You simply have to order them for a world block. As for other world block problem I am not aware of any outside of supply shortages.

WORLD TOLD ME THAT THE INNER HEAD STUDS FOR THE 6 BOLT GOES BETWEEN THE LIFTER BORES. SO YOU HAVE TO USE LIFTERS WITH OUT A LINK BAR.

98camaro, not sure how serious of a motor you want to build, but if your looking for a serious piece i might have what your looking for if you are thinking dry sump or external wet sump.
I have a warhawk block with 50mm rollers cam bearings, .937 LSM keyed lifters ( block is bushed ) ,jesel belt drive, callies 3.750 stroke crank, grp rods, JE pistons (with valve reliefes for the canted valve and for the c5r heads ), c5r heads, canted valve heads, sheetmetal canted valve intake, head studs, dry sump pan, and im sure more stuff im forgetting.
All is brand new except the jesel belt drive, the lifters, and the c5r heads but are in excellent condition.
Will sell all or split up at almost crackhead prices, so just throwing this at ya before you spend the big bucks.

Hey Kevin, how much for the C5R heads?
Will the belt drive fit a standard LS2 block?

I was going to see if i could sell it all as a package first, but may split it up if there was enough interest. I havent really advertised this stuff anywhere. The blocks need to be machined for a jesel and the cover blocks the stock oiling holes, so a jesel basically makes an lsx a dry sump or external wet sump motor only. The short block is assembled already, so it is already installed on the warhawk block.

Got it.... well if you have an interest in selling the c5R heads, let me know. I can't use canted valve in my class and currently have Dart 225's on it and would love to step the engine up... I am looking at the ETP 265 4.0 right now and I know the C5R's would wake this engine up.

I have seen some reports of casting issues with some of the LSX blocks, I've seen 3-4 comments on www.LS1TECH.com (http://www.LS1TECH.com) about it.
Clearly very few small block anything setups regardless of whether it's LS- based can run 1300hp or more with just a hone and copper head gaskets. :)

Our friends over at W2W are saying that despite the "issue" with the GM LSX blocks, they are are stronger, beefier and better than the Dart and Warhawk versions.
We're currently 1200 RWHP with a stock LS7 block with main girdle, O-ringed heads and copper head gaskets. And 800 RWHP Aluminum block LS2 (402) with no girdle w/MLS gaskets. So far so good and with no problems.

The warhawk is having some issues with the head bolt between the lifters once being torqued up.
6.0 blocks are very strong for what you want to do
