So i had my car painted black. I used all dupont chromabase products, and the asshole who painted my car didn't put enough clear on it after the wet sand and buff was all said and done. It looks as if it has a purple haze to it in the sunlight along with a lot of swirls. It hasnt been polished yet, im hoping that will take care of it. I guess my question is will polishing make it look shiny black like its supposed to or is there something else i should do?:smt102

polishing should bring the shine back but be careful around the edges and body lines pretty easy to burn through. a trick i like to use take a squirt bottle of water and put a fine mist of water on the area being worked to help with the heat from polishing. i also use a little 3'' polish pad on a small pistol style gun that turns slowers than my big pad for edges and anyway the big polisher wont fit .

how do you know there isnt enogh clear on it ? 2-3 coats of clear is plenty do you know what grit it was sanded in? I ussually sand 1500 2000 then 2500 then use heavy cut coumpound with a wool pad for cutting then heavy cut with a white foam pad then polish with a black foam pad with foam pad polishing glaze(for dark colors) then go over it with a product called wizards shine master by hand black is a bitch to rub but when done correctly is very beautiful......................

Wow, I tried to save mine but I wasn't that intense with my finish program. Looks like I need to tighten down my reign and add some discepline to what I do in the shop.

Try polishing it out with 3M perfect it swirl remover for dark colors and use a black foam pad. also you can use fineline tape to mask off all edges and then hand buff those areas after the whole car has been machined.Should look good when done.

After paint when i rub out a car i use 1000 grit on a 6"DA to get rid of most the orange peal. Then wet sand with 2000 grit with a spary bottle mixed with water and dish soap( the dish soap keeps the paper from loading up) then i use a trizac pad on a DA with that same bottle of water. The trizac pad is equal to about 3000 grit,it will shine up close then all you have left is to polish.

I'm sure Jeff will agree with me on this ...........................if you do not have Alot of experience with a da sander your better off doing this by hand.....................also one little peice of forigen (sp) dirt. sand or metal on your sand paper Trizact or 1000 grit will scratch the finish bad ......................

x2 i can't agree with you more.If you don't have experience with a wheel do it by hand.I restored a 67 vette for a guy and he was helping polish it out and wanted to try the wheel and i told him no way you'll burn the paint then he said well its my car,so i told him fine if you burn an edge i am not fixing it.Guess what within 20 seconds he burned threw the paint! he was like i barely touch it.So i had to say the old told you so.lol

heres the car this pic don't do it justice.
