View Full Version : Hanging fiberglass doors
Anyone have any tips for mounting hinges on fiberglass doors? I'm thinking of make a plate to put inside to door to connect the top and bottom hinge for support. What do you guys do to make em last?

Dont screw up like I did.
I never put a tensioning/reinforcing rod from the top hinge down to the lower latch side of the door.
By putting this in, it won let the door sag. My monte door sags like a bitch. Hard to latch.

I used 1/16 aluminum plate inside of the doors, one complete piece from top to bottom on the inside,I also replaced the bushings. It definitely helped.

use a plate of aluminum 3/16 thick that will go from one hing to the other and about 2.5 inches wide, and how ever wide your hing is on the out side is, make sure the plate sits flat inside the door then bolt it together, you might want to even do a layup of glass in the middle of the plate between the two hinges. also make sure you can adjust your door up or down, in or out. if you need more information on how, pm me your phone number and i will call you and talk to you more on how to do it.

Ditto on the aluminum plate. I went a step further w and glassed over it with bi-directional glass, then random mat to tie it all together. I drilled and tapped straight into the plate for the hinges. No need to put nuts on the backside now! All this added some weight, but they close better than stockers!
