n/a pro mods, lol! :) Call them what you want, 800+ cubes on nuts alone sounds bad ass. Besides Chris, I know you have some understanding of what it takes to compete in those classes.
NMCA's n/a is cool, but it ain't Pro Stock.

Well the competition is certainly there. It came down to literally the last round of racing to determine a champ this past year, and he won by 5 points!
And these aren't cookie cutter big blocks either, NMCA Pro Stock has everything from SBF, SBC, BBC, Pontiacs, Oldmobiles, etc. etc.
You're right it aint IHRA or NHRA Pro Stock, it's much cooler!

I agree. Extremely close racing kinda like the big boy Pro Stockers. I think 2008 will see some guys really picking up. There are alot of new cars/combos out there and there sure to go faster.

Don't count on seeing any traditional Pontiacs after the rules come out on Thursday. The Pontiac was only .030 faster then the BBC in Memphis and .035 faster then the SBC in Milan but is getting a nice, well deserved 75lb penalty. Time to build a Chevy or SBF so no one has anything to cry about. No wait, then it will be the 3-speed, then the nostalgia body, never mind, I'll just stay home.

11-13-2007, 05:39 PM
What was the percentage of sb's that showed up compared to the amount of sb's that went to final rounds?
In 2007, there were a total of 5 bbc's in the final round out of a possible 12 positions, 4 sb's and 3 Pontiacs. There were more BBC's racing then other combo's on average followed by sb's with Pontiacs bringing up the rear. Where is Chandler with his spread sheet with all of the data?
John Langer
11-13-2007, 05:40 PM
How many races has a small block won in the last 4 years?
How many sb's showed up in 2006? How many rac a full season in 2005? Didn't Booze win the championship in 2004? Didn't you win back to backs in 2003 and 2004?

I guess everyone has to do what they feel is right.I came back to race in 2007 with what I thought was a little heavy weight, but I showed up and showed to be competitive. In John's case its very hard to tell how well his stuff runs because he is the only one there (525 Poncho). The small block fords qualified well and runer-uped and won races.Do they need help, I say hell no.
Does the powerglide need help........after 2 wins and low quals,,,,,,,,,I say hell no.
The prelims come out on thurs, then the bitchin will begin???
I dont have much to bitch about, because the sbc seems to get shoved under the rug like always.

Your probably one of the guys who are trying to optimize there combination instead of writing letters. You guys need to stop spending your money on dyno time and buy some stamps. A phone call is a hell of alot cheaper than taking your car to the track and trying stuff.
Langer how will 75 lbs. slow you down .03? I thought that would slow a car down alot more than that. Damn calculator must be broken.

I guess it's actually 75lbs since you get another 25lbs early model body weight break.
Chris Uratchko
11-16-2007, 07:54 AM
Hey I'm running with a 75 pound penalty too. Just because my head is a 10 degree head don't mean it makes more power than a 15 degree head... oh well.
I will admitt that I asked them to change the 8.5 lbs/cid increase over the std catagories.... I guess that was not accepted.

Gotcha.....I'd be looking for a roller anyway. I gotta say, I hate to hear you're going to a late model body. To me the class is all about the old school muscle cars. But I realize aerodynamics can probably make quite a difference in the late model cars versus the older bodies.

What I fail to understand is that the 360 ford goes .04 faster then the field over in the NMRA and gets hit with nothing. I go .03 faster then the field at Memphis, the car that I went .03 faster then gets a 25lb weight break and I get hit with 100lbs.

Ben Mens
11-17-2007, 10:50 AM
E85/E98 is good fuel, yes it's good enough for our race cars and will work with a carb. It would be cool as it is a totaly different fuel (read new) and should keep the "experimenters" at bay for awhile I would think? If not something like that, then how about opening up the fuel rule completely? No nitro or alky, gasolines only. Q-16 is less $
than C-25 and for sure less than $100 per gallon for the imitation stuff.........

Ben I and others have requested Q16 for ProStock.... even if it is not the 'spec' fuel, just make it allowed so it is a real alternative to an expensive hot fuel....
The request is very simple for them to consider. Unfortunately, I think money, sponsorship(lack of) and general politics will get in the way of a rule change... I hope I am wrong.
Ben Mens
11-17-2007, 10:57 AM
We have done and continue testing with fuel manufacturers. Don Bowles has been racing with E85 for 2 years now, both supercharged and normally asperated (boosted & high compression) with zero issues. He even runs his golf cart on it! It is not a big change calibrating your fuel system for it at all, nothing like going to methanol.

Hell, Don't Stop now Fella's!!!
This shit is just warming up for the winter to come...
Partner and I had our eye on Pro Stock last couple of years in perhaps coming out with a car in the "non status quo" (BBC & SBC for those who haven't found out yet) engine arrangement next year or so to see if it might be fun to run without a Bowtie around our necks.
But, seems like its going to be apples and apples vs. Apples and Tomato's!
I say we hit all the All Chevy Engine Combo's with 150-200+lbs since they have 6000 plus different engine combo's they can run. Lets see almost 40yrs of domination in drag racing is long enough I think!!
Yeah Yeah 150+ and leave the rest of us alone just to see WTF kind of Combo the BBC or SBC will come up with next!!!
Oh, I like to thank John Langer also for getting the weight added did ya have to make that fucking Poncho Bullet run that fast???(sarcasm):partyman:
Lets feel sorry for the MOPAR boys and give them a B1 bone while were at it..Gezzz! Not like it is cheap to build them...
NMCA was created for just the opposite of what is going on right now!
To get away from the :peeingNHRA clone engine combo's...and the "Holy Grail"!
So much for that huh???
Kinda like the Stepford Wives Club..We can all have the same piece of ass wheither we like it or not!:smt097

Uhhh, pass some of that over here too.
The Mopars did get the B1 in the new rules. But I got news for you all this stuff costs the same at this level... it's not relative to brands. Parts is parts, development is development.
If you have paid any attention to the class(seems like you have not).... here is a recap.
2002 SBC championship
2003 SBC championship
2004 SBF(ford) championship
2005 BBC championship
2006 BBP(pontiac) championship
2007 BBC championship(narrow margin)....
That don't look like a bad record. Smoke em if you got em!!

I am sorry but isn't that 4 out of 6 wins??? For the Bowtie???
Not counting the infinite number of cars that the Bowtie motor consumes!!!
As for the Mopars that is what I was refering to as in throw them a bone..(make em feel good)
Chris you can't sit there and tell me you can build a Mopar for the same money as a BBC and make the same power..
So share the pipe bro....:smt119

Hey show up with that 1000 hp BBC and tell us how you do. My point, was that all these engines are development pieces. Nobody is running out of the box parts. It takes a lot of money for the BBC's as it does for the B1's.... Most of the parts are similarly priced from the heads down.... I can show you the numbers. Crank/rods/pistons/blocks.... all the same. Cams, etc... These guys with BBC's are spending over 30k on them. Not cookie cutter.
Jim Craig
11-28-2007, 08:51 AM
Ya 30K and that's just for the induction side of things -- just like I been saying I've got some "real" Pro Stock stuff from the mid-90's and they don't make as much power as the current crop of BBC stuff using a single dominator and at the time what did a mid-90's Pro Stock motor cost 60, 70, 90K.
You guys are waaaay out there and then you throw some Roush stuff in there -- this class should really be sponsored by a valve spring company.

Why does it seem we are chasing the same tail here...I agree!!
Heads down there all the same!!! Thats where it stops!!!
That is my point...all these Chevy builds all the numbers are there man...
And you can't get a Ponton, Olds or even a Mopar for the same money to run with the Chevys. You can't even get the Friggin PARTS in this day and age!!!
So what happens..we run "Clone Chevys" in every body style out there!!!
But along comes someone once in a while..
Lets use Langer for instant..
Thats takes them all on with something different and starts wopping ass and what happens??? Some whiny bitch with too tight of a "Bowtie" around their neck starts whining....then another...then another
Then Blam..NMCA is forced to give..........Added Weight!!!
This is Total bullshit Chris....Come on man you and I know it for a fact!!!
Jeff Chandler..my wonder slut..(hahaha.. good sense of humor) will tell ya first as has told me here in the bullet that the reason he runs a Chevy in the Fox body is because it is the best BANG FOR THE BUCK!!!
Which I agree with his thinking...But also Easiest to dial the numbers! Never ending parts scorce for the POWER!!!
Still I dont think it is fair to slap some one like Langer or whom ever that has the knowlledge, determination and or technical vice when they start smoking Chevys after all the parts, R & D and 40yrs of Domination in Drag Racing that Chevy has endured!!
Think about it.....Who else out there is bitching??? No one its a CHEVY WORLD!!!
NMCA must not have an Idea that it takes more then HP to get a bullet to run like this.. Lots of onsite testing with the car set up also..Transmissions
Drivers play a big part also..
I don't need to tell you or Jeff or anyone else that busts there balls all week on a Hot Rod to make em run....
I admire all of ya!!! I also have been there many years outside the realm of the "Holy Grail" having racers and pros telling me it can't be done then proving them wrong!!! It became a mission to take on every Chevy racer my partner and I came across. Still is!!!
My Point is....no room out side the Bowtie world when you start bashing the "Holy Grail" in these classes like NMCA Pro Stock!!!
The more you win...The More You're Going To Lose trying To Do So!!!
Now I am a whiny Bitch!!!
Shut Up Chandler I don't want to hear it!!!:smt097

??? That's all well and good, you just make it sound like just because someone could bolt together a chevy with more plentiful parts, that they automatically had an advantage. There is nothing plentiful about the kind of combos that are winning in pro stock. They were all developed with lots of dyno/track time, and cost tons of money. Is it harder to find someone to put together a top line poncho or mopar program then a chevy? Maybe. But the chevy guy has no advantage other then the number of potential builders capable of putting together a winning program. If you want to be different, feel free. But don't be pissed because somebody used a combo that is easier to wrap your arms around.

Say what??? Dude...Have you bumped your head???
I can show you 15 different styles of heads for just the BBC that are competitive not to mention the SBC. Along with Intakes....
I havent even left the Jegs catalog yet...
Shit...CFE right down the street from you offers that alone!!! I know I worked there before I finished college!!! I am not going to hash out R & D with you..
But I will say this, I have been there and seen the development in which all came from the welded up D ports to 861 C port head in which all of them are based off of. Spead port or not!
Show me 5 alum Pontiac heads....Olds, Buick..Even Mopar maybe! In the last 40 YEARS!!!
Show me how they have ranked against the Bowtie boys in any style racing without a handicap exp of TF???
Plus I think your barking up the wrong tree. I have nothing against Chevy. Or the folks that run them.
You need to read a while back in a few different threads in and about NMCA Pro Stock...and what my bitch is...
Better yet..Talk to John Langer ask him how he feels trying to run against the "Holy Grail" only to be singled out given added weight for 08' cuz he was kicking there asses all year!!!
