Hi..

Looking for a transmission that wont fail,as several other 2nd hand ones have recently after a maximum of 8 runs .Recorded 7.94@ 290 kph.

Using a 2jz toyota engine in a spaceframe chassis with fibre supra body.
3400cc engine making 1000hp at around 7000rpm.

Not sure what gear ratio.

purchasing a new transmission in the next 2 weeks.

What do you recomend and how long should we be expecting it to last?

Thanks in advance.

I'd probably put a Liberty set-up in there. That should last a long time if maintained and cooled-down properly.

if you want an auto a glide/Neal chance converter is a good choice for a light car like yours, and would do a whole season with no problems with the right trans.
If manual a Liberty is best as gasguzzler suggested.

Thanks for your replies.
I forgot to mention we have been using 2 speed powerglides 2nd hand shipped from the US.
Another question is ,the 2JZ motor makes power higher up in the rpm than a v8, is it ok with the transbrake sitting on the line at 5500rpm 6000rpm 6500rpm what can happen to the convertor or transmision at these rpms.

BRUNOS Automotive clutchless auto 3 speed air shifter,is this overkill for my application ?

Good things have been said about Hutch,TCI and TS, as im planning on buying 2 transmissions to run and test so all your advice is appriciated..

Thanks again.

2nd hand powerglides aren't going to cut it at all.You need all new with a Reed/dedenbear case, and billet internals.Converter needs to be a bolt together piece because you are so far away, and any adjustments needed can be done in the field......
no problem with the right trans/converter launching at 6000rpm...

I will say this, that thing sounds sick! I'm not much for the 4/6 cylinder engines, but that thing flat out flies!

They need to put some lights in on the track, though.

If that is where the motor makes the correct boost level to launch the car and the converter was made for that application , then there is no problem. The problem will start when a launch RPM is maintained for a period of time to overheat the trans. The trans will expell fluid and potentially catch the car on fire.
Liquid/liquid coolers are required on turbo cars.

I saw your video and the car seems to spool up quite quickly and you don't seem to be sitting there on boost for too long.

How are you adapting the powerglide to the Toyota motor. What has been the converter to flexplate clearance and what has been failing in the transmissions.

There is NO reason for a trans to fail in that car in 8 passes.
