Is that because -someone- will have his car back on the track??? I for one would like to see the orange camaro back in action. Except with a 'chebby engine in it this time. ;)

Although if that Big Bad PonTon of Langer's had not done that wheel stand in Ga I think it may have been a different story!
So with all due respect.. hats off for John Langer for knocking heads with the BBC boys!!!
Now, I hear they are going to add weight to Johns package...
Can anyone answer why???:smt102

Jamie Stanton sold his car so he won't be back next year, his car will though.
As for weight on Langer I've been hearing that all year so take that rumor with a grain of salt. Don't feel for Langer, he wasn't at any disadvantage all year. We all knew he was the car to beat at every race.
Craig, same hear. I wish I could have gotten over to your pits to check out your car but after Saturdays last qual tech wanted to verify all of our cid's so we didn't get back to the pits until after 9. Did they place you on the ladder?

Nope, didn't get on the ladder for O/C. Entered the bracket class Sunday just so I could make some hits on a good track. It was movin' in the 1/8th, just wish I could have made some full 1/4 passes.

Last I heard was I was getting 100lbs for next year. I guess when you scream and cry in the staging lanes about what others are doing or what you think they could do, that is how you get weight thrown on a combo. Hard work counts for NOTHING! For 100lbs, or even 75lbs I will be at every race next year, I just wont be driving a car.

they are adding weight to johns car because its a pontiac period. the chevy guys must have bitched and moaned to no end that a pontiac is not only keeping up but whoopin there asses! CMAFR:CMAFR:chevy guys lol you have more new heads in 1 year than pontiac will ever have X10. i remeber phil montieth telling me that in the 70s when he was setting nhra super stock and gt records, when he got home from that race hed go to the mailbox and the letter from the nhra would already be in there factoring his hp. lol its a shame we cant have variety on a level playing field. anyhow congrats to john on another great year. the only was to screw em is come out in 08 with the extra hundered and win it all!
Jeff Chandler
10-19-2007, 07:48 PM
Gus, your dead wrong. I have a Chevy and never once complained to anyone about anything. If you know someone that complained call them out, don't loop us all together just because we run Chevys. As far as John kicking the chevys ass, I thought it was a pretty darn competitive year, Pontiac-2 wins, BBC-3 wins and a SBF with 1 win.
John knows 100% where I stand, it's impossible for any of us to know if he has an advantage or not unless everyone is 100% optimized, I know I'm not. The only river I'm crying is that the year is over and it's 6 months before we race again.
Dr. Detroit
10-19-2007, 08:14 PM
I think I am going to have to agree with Gus & John. I think it is bullshit that Langer stepped it up a notch on the Chevys and this is going to happen. 100lbs more weight added for what???
We ran Pontiac for years in S/G and they are 7 times the work to make them run with the chevys. Then once you get one running this kinda shit always pans out..
Phuck em John, dial that Bad Bitch up another notch!!!
If I or My Partner meet and see ya next year I'll help you out anyway I can so you keep kicking theirs asses up and down the 1320..WEIGHT OR NOT!!!

X2 You can tell how he writes John...Jeff sounds very kind, open minded and laid back.
Never the less I along with others as you see don't like it when the under motored guys like yourself get hit with BS when some one works there asses off to get a combo working only to start taking down the Chevy's.
Gus in a few posts back hit it on the head. Chevy BBC is the Holy Grail and when you get a chance to throw it down and kick it over into the mud guys that run them get pissed off! Too Bad...I say!!!:smt065
Guys that run motors like Real Pontiac/ Buick/ Olds Engines not corporate Chevy/Pontiac/ Olds shit understand that we can't run over to the local engine builder plop down 30, 40 , 60 or100k pull one off the shelf and go be competitive without turning a wrench on it like the Chevy's.
Again Congrats too Jeff and you for a good finish. Sorry about your little bit of bad luck John but atleast you did one hell of a job saving the car and didn't get hurt!

Steve, you do realize that John weighs 225-250 lbs less than the BB Chevys and he only made about 40-50hp less than the BB's? It's not like he's running at our weight. As for his heads, I think they are pretty good and fairly new castings.
I've learned more this year about engine tuning than I ever have and it's not because my engine was a plug in and play model, they all take work to make go down the track.
I'm just defending my side as you are defending yours Steve. Nobody out there has put together a small effort.

Jeff, with all due respect, you know what I meant when I say you can get BBC off the shelf.
Show me 5 "Real" Pontiac engine builders making 1khp on or better on gas natural puffin! Show me one of those builders..that keeps them on the shelf!!
Sure you have to work at all of them to be competitive. Your class being one of the toughest around!!!
I tell ya though. No one knows that better then my partner and I when we were in NHRA S/G class running as all steel Pontiac stuff running with the likes of Rampy, Gecker, Nickens and the Coughlin Bros Big Inch Chevy/Olds Corp when they were in S/G years back.
I know what John and others are up against, Yet I didn't know he was that much lighter.... still. Considering what he is up against:confused:
And if what you say is true Jeff, that John is 40 or 50 hp down from the BBC engines then I say this. Two things here...One Langer has done his homework and two SHAME ON THE BBC!!! Thats Drag Racing Sport Fans!!!
But, Langer is not running away with the class hes just in there with the best right???
Yes the Pontiac's are making a come back with new heads online. But barely anyone testing them unlike the Gazillion "Turn Key" heads and other parts available for the BBC.
But that's not the only thing. Pontiac lower(s) & spinning assemblies also is just coming online also. Where we ran super balanced cast cranks @7k because there were no steel that was even heard of not so long ago!
Again, I am not taken anyones effort away..NO NO NO! I have too much respect for all of you banging it up out there. The bottom line is that the BBC is the "Holy Grail" and when someone steps up, knocks heads with them people piss and moan, piss and moan until the other guy takes the hit! Look at the Mopar Boys, better yet the BBF!!!
With that said Jeff, I guess in turn I should on the other hand ask you why are you running a BBC in a Ford??? The BBF are making a come back???
You don't have to answer to something I and others all ready know. Because if you had a BBF in the stang and went out there hitting on 3 out of 6 events you would be in the same boat as Langer right now!!! In the middle of a Chevy Pow Wow bitch fest!!!
I think you see what I am getting at.
When a guy of a different breed comes around things circle and blow dust up around the Chevy.
Langer not to be far apart from the Great Bob Glidden running a Ford in a Chevy camp.
Wayne County Mopars also even tho they were said to be cheating but never proved out.
Billy G goes through the same shit with his SBF!! Yet he steps it up each time!!
Guys like this...Got it going on..... don't bust their balls and run them away with penalties every flipping time because their winning!!!
Admire their efforts is all I am saying....
Now I think I am coming down with a cold from my little one.. I hate this Michigan weather!!
Nice hackin shit over with you Jeff, you did good this year!!!
I wish you all the best!!!

with all do respect jeff, the only way weight is added , if 1 car is totally dominating, and as you say - with pontiac- 2 wins, bbc 3 wins and sbf-1, well that seems pretty even to mee doesnt it seem even to you ? bbc already had more wins, now with the extra 100 it will set john back ( hopefully not) . its obvious the rule makers want bbc to have a huge advantage. i respect all racers, its hard as hell to make a car go fast and do it consistantly. but seriuosly , think about it, another 100 lbs on a pontiac? when did pontiac become such a dominant force. with more wins- the bbc should get the weight no? people should post with thier brains not thier hearts. sure im a pontiac guy, only a heavy pro street car, but imo, i think adding weight to the ponchos is insane, just my .02 . and great job to all of the pro stock racers this year!

And if what you say is true Jeff, that John is 40 or 50 hp down from the BBC engines then I say this. Two things here...One Langer has done his homework and two SHAME ON THE BBC!!! Thats Drag Racing Sport Fans!!!
John has done his homework and lobbied for weight breaks and the Tiger cylinder heads which I believe he deserved. Does he deserve 100lb penalty? Nope, I don't agree with that. Does he deserve any type of penalty? As I mentioned before, I don't know, honestly. I think some of this had to do with aborted passes in the first 3 races that had very good et and no mph. I think that got a lot of people up in a tizzy. John knows what I'm talking about because I've joked with him about it many times. Nobody said John wasn't smart;)
As for the shame on the BBC's, I guess I don't understand that comment. Making 1140 hp with a conventional head is hardly anything to be ashamed of, I know I'm not but I do understand your point. Chevy's have been around and we do have a lot of options but not in conventional cylinder heads. I believe John has the best Pontiac head and I have the best BB Chevy cylinder heads.
With that said Jeff, I guess in turn I should on the other hand ask you why are you running a BBC in a Ford???
Because when we made the decision to buy the engine that was the dominant engine. If I knew then what I know now I'd probably have a SBF in the car so I could run Hot Street and Pro Stock but the rules had a total makeover during the winter. All in all, I'm pretty happy with my decision.
I honestly believe I can run with John without the weight being added. My car is lagging behind as far as technology goes. I still run a steel driveshaft, my centersection is nothing more than a old Strange case with a steel spool and a very inefficient STREET gear set, heavy none lightened axles, headers that have primarys that very, very long, my car sits to high and a few other things that I know can make a difference. If it was me I would leave the rules as they are and make adjustments here and there but not until next year but I have no voice nor would it matter, I'm just racing my car and having a good time, I can't see nothing to bitch about:)

And you and I both know that the 8.66 that the sbc ran was the first pass on a new motor with a soft (for a 3,000lb car) 1.277 60' for a sbc that was over weight by 30-80 lbs.
Jeremys car was a fresh, new engine with a brand new cylinder head. It's stout no doubt. Everyone elses stuff seems to be off from the beginning of the year... Butch went a 66 this year in the same conditions at the same track, probably in the same lane at the same weight. But it was fresh.
To be completely honest, I'd just rather not have an opinion on whether you need weight or not. I'm racing next year and plan to be competitive, and I hope you will be racing too.

Congrads to John for running a Pontiac in his Pontiac instead of ruining a Pontiac with a crap division engine. I am sure it has been tough with the inline valve head and the Pontiac's stock bore spacing as compared to the wide bore spacing of the bbc plus thier canted valve arrangement. At least finally some good parts are coming out for the Pontiac engine.

they are adding weight to johns car because its a pontiac period. the chevy guys must have bitched and moaned to no end that a pontiac is not only keeping up but whoopin there asses! Put that same engine and drivetrain in a later model Pontiac. The most aero body is th 82-92 one and they are plentiful. I recently saw a real good looking 84 Trans Am at Mo-Kan, Mo. The engine sat way back in the body, they have a torque arm suspension and are real slippery. Should easily overcome the added 100 lbs. I read somewhere that the body only has a .299 CD on the 84 T.A..

By the numbers, it looks like the sbc might need 25lbs or so or the glide needs 25lbs, that's it. I dont see where I outran anyone by a ton. What bodies were the winners using, nostalgia or late models?

I was the only nostalgia body. Not many were campaigned this year. Fox body cars won 2 races, nostalgia 2 races, late model f-body 2 races.
